Embarrassment to the firearm community

The "hero" that everyone has been raving about, Cody Wilson, the guy that has the 3D printed gun plans and has been fighting it in court to release them, has fled the country to Taiwan. He allegedly had sex with an underage girl, and when he found out he was under investigation, he took off out of the country.

Seems that the article showed that the girl was promiscuous. She accepted $500 for the sex.

Why are they going after him? Just because she's underage? What about her?

Felony statuary rape. The "victim" is not of legal age to consent to sexual activity in Texas. These laws are sometimes confusing, as most states have different laws, and he would have been legal in about half of the states.

He'll probably remain on the run until she turns 18 and can't be forced to testify against him, unless he gets caught.

Well, providing the accusations are true, this guy had a major lapse in judgement, gosh, talk about throwing your life in the toilet

Well isn't that convenient?

Wonder what the young "lady" looks ilke when she's all dolled up...  :-*

Edit to add:  He is as much of a "gun entrepreneur" as the guy who decided to make the first 7.62x39 AR pistol back in the day. That caused ATF to classify all the cheap sintered steel core 7.62x39 ammo as "armor piercing handgun ammo" and ban importation or possession of same.

And a shame at that, that's one thing my indoor range asks, steel core, nope, can't use it here

Your range doesn't ban steel core for legal reasons.  Steel core will damage their backstop and is a fire hazard at an indoor range.

The allegations, if true, reflect badly on Cody.  They don't take away from the fact that he has elevated the conversation about the legitimacy and practicality of gun laws.  Unfortunately, in a political environment, the mere accusation will make it hard to keep the conversation on point.

That's why it's such an embarrassing situation. He was someone that was in the public eye, representing a (small) segment of gun rights and he blew it. He was making national headlines with his fight, now he's making headlines with his scandal.

Additional details are coming out.  I am not offering these as a defense of Mr. Wilson's actions, merely pointing them out.

1.  He met the girl through a website (sugardaddymeet.com) that is supposed to verify identity/age and only allow adults to be members.

2.  It appears he was already traveling abroad and has chose not to return, rather than he fled after learning about the charges.  A small distinction I know, but not without some nuance.

While I would love to have champions of our cause that are pure as the driven snow, go scoop up some of that snow, melt and filter it and you will be a little disconcerted you ate it as a kid.

While I still question the sensibility of participating in a sugar daddy website, these details make it possible to see that the original articles were formulated to paint Mr. Wilson in the worst possible light.

This does call the viability of defense distributed into question.  While nothing his business does requires him to hold an FFL, if he is convicted he would no longer be legally allowed to possess the end result of his manufacturing tools.  Hopefully the business can be transitioned to new ownership.

What did he expect on a "Sugar Daddy" website?

I'm going with he either knew, or didn't care enough about the girl's age to find out.

This is indeed a black eye for our gun community.

This whole thing (1st and 2nd Amendments) should have never devolved into a story about this clown. The minute I heard him speak, I knew the press and anti's and rights grabbers would have their way with him. Yes some gun owners need to be more careful when "selecting leaders", and be more about leading in every way you can with the abilities you have, because at this point I don't care where you live, they are coming after your rights. Guns, speech.........

Ramjet

Who the he'll selected him as a leader?

I will tell you who.....the fake news and liberal media and some extreme thinking people.

Frankly I will choose who I follow I do not need some ultra liberal scumbag liberal media types telling me who my leaders are.

As far as his situation ........ we'll be careful who you associate with ...... :o
