I believe we have expressed a fair bit of concern about PRVI brass here as well.  Those are certainly loads that are not up to spec in some way for 10mm.

Yikes, makes me glad I roll my own and always use quality brass. Definitely an ammo problem.

I shoot a lot of the PPU 170gr FMJ ammo in my R1 as it shoots an inch at 25 yds. I have had no issues with it. Like the poster said, it doesn't have the same snappy recoil of others. I assume that the 8.0 grs of powder they load in their ammo is fairly quick and that's why no snappy recoil. The Colt that went kaboom could have had a mechanical issue but my first guess would be that PPU put the wrong powder or powder charge in the ammo. I guess when the OP answers if the other Elite had the same problem we'll all know if it was or wasn't the ammo.

FWIW, I've heard folks complain about PPU brass. I've had no issues with it at all. It works just as good and long as Starline. Maybe at one time it was crap but apparently they've regrouped and it's decent now.

Delta Elites seem to belly a lot of brass. Does he think it's the ammo?

Mine doesn't and I have an older blued model. I've even worked up to the scary 10gr 800X 180gr XTP load. I suspect the previous post regarding a possible loading with the wrong powder boo boo was the problem. I'd be contacting the folks at PRVI about this. Not considering firing them from a Glock 20, like the original poster at the Colt forum.

Looking at the primer from the blown out casing the pressure didn't appear to be that high.  Last time I saw that many cases swollen from a Delta Elite there was an issue with the swing link allowing the early unlocking issue increasing the unsupported areas... ???   ::)

I'm not shocked the brass is Privi Partizan.

Hey Shadow, that's a good thought. Too bad the guy didn't include any info on what the Remington empties that he was shooting looked like. I would expect some bulging of those as well if the gun was unlocking too early. Maybe they survived firing because they were stronger cases?

The guy who owns the Delta has added a lot more info for those interested.

The Colt Forum is pretty much dedicated to collecting and not shooting.

Thanks Beemer! I did find it interesting that his other empties had no issues at all.

As I suspected, the Prvi Partizan ammo is not all that hot.  It's rated at 320 m/s (that's @1050 fps.)  Very tame imo.  Also, as previously noted, the primer gives no indication of over pressure.  My money is on bad brass.

That said, I have had swollen brass shot out of my Delta Elite but it was 135 grain Double Tap chron'ed slightly above the advertised velocity of 1600 fps which, to me, is nuclear hot.  That said, I think it's undeniable that Delta's and old gen Glocks are very prone to case swelling in hot loads.  I am always very careful working up my reloads and I'm going to pull the bullets on the rest of that Double Tap ammo.

The_Shadow

David, if you do pull those Double Tap loads try to record the amount of powder used to see how it matches up.  Some pictures of the powder would also be interesting, as most were with longshot.

Certainly no expert, but it looks to me like those bullets were fired out of battery.
