Just out of curiosity, I have been looking into the possible options for a G20 gen 4, or G30 gen 3 SF 9mm conversion. If this could be done with either for a reasonable amount, it may be worth looking into. After a fair amount of research, I am learning very little. I am currently looking at the G19X, but thought if I could do a reasonably inexpensive conversion, it may be worth looking into. The kicker is that it must be reliable. Ultimately I think the best option would be to just suck it up and buy the 19X, however funds are a bit tight right now...Thoughts ?

I have the 6.02" 9mm conversion for my G-20SF with the associated recoil rod and springs.  I tested it but it is not reliable enough for any defensive reliability.  Haven't given up on it because I can still use it for load testing.

Thanks, Looks like the G30 might work to, but once again, it's the reliability thing

THe extractor and ejector are the issue.  The further you get from the spec cartridge diameter and rim size, the worse it will be.  So, the G20 will provide better reliability than the G30, but neither will be as good as an actual 9mm handgun.

Thanks sqlbullet, those were my exact thoughts, Thanks guys!

Recall you were considering the Canik short while ago...

I really, really appreciate what my G20SF has to offer and brings to the table, but....If looking for a striker fired, polymer 9mm... Probably wouldn't focus on the G19...  If that's what you want, I see Gen5 (the only 9mm Glock at this point I'd seriously consider) in low to mid $500's.  See Gen4 and in upper $400s.

VP9, PPQ, CZP10c, SIG 320, M&P2 are all 9mm solutions IMO that significantly out perform and out feature the G19.  Shot them all and strongly favor any on this list over the G19 for 9mm carry.  I have carried the VP9 in edc rotation (when caring 9mm) for 2.5 years and been very, very impressed with it.  Very accurate, eats everything I've ever fed it and never a single stoppage or stumble of any kind at range or training.  Indicated money may be tight now and certainly understand; any of those can be found NIB in the mid to upper $400's if you look (plus transfer of course).  You might find a bargain on lightly used model at even better price too.
Those strikers fired polymers really outshine the old G19 (Gen5 is closer but still wouldn't get the nod over any other on that list for me).

If you're open to hammer fired polymer 9mm, check out the CZ P07...  Its a very excellent, highly regarded economical pistol.  They can be found NIB in the low $400s...  Bargains on lightly used can be found too.

Good luck!

I have an HK P30L and P30SK, a sig P229 and my son-in-laws twin has a VP9.  I have shot all those.  I have handled the PPQ and the Sig 320.  I really like my Glock 19 better.  It is a Gen 5 though.

Thanks Folks, will look into the above options and pick a dedicated 9, will not be doing a conversion on this one

sqlbullet,
I have the P30SK (with V1 LEM trigger) as well; it's pretty sweet shooter.  It gets carried
when iwb is called for.  Not judging anybody else's choices, but I strongly prefer  :)) keeping
my thumb on the hammer when sliding a loaded pistol into my pants! :o.
