ANY 1076 owners?  Just acquired a 4.25 inch 1076- looks to be very little used-not going to be a safe queen.

What ammo works well? Will it handle the Buffalo bore and Underwood velocity over 1300?

What modern day Magazines can be purchased to work in this gun-- Wilson Combat 10mm, Kimber, Colt?

Thank you for any info--

The S&W 1076 are S&W proprietary magazines and only those made for the 10XX series will work...
You might want to consider a recoil spring change out, I use https://www.gunsprings.com/ in mine

Thanks Shadow--ok I'll ask where does one find the mags

Watch eBay and gunbroker for mags and/or mag parts, they tend to get pricey though. I've managed to pick up a few under $55, some with yellow followers but replaced those with white ones. The mags are easy to disassemble and clean. Still running stock mag springs.

My 1076 looked nearly unused until I pulled the guide rod out. While there were some markings from the spring it wasn't all that bad. I replaced the guide rod with a stainless rod and a new recoil spring from Wolfe.

Midway has 10xx parts, check there frequently. Good luck with your 1076, it's built like a tank and they aren't manufactured like that any more. Max load for my 1006/1076/610 is Sigs Vcrown. While these guns could handle Underwood and Buffalo Bore I don't want to break anything that can't be replaced.

Another word to the wise...Be very careful with your grip removal and installation as if done wrong you can damage the side plate assembly.

I actually saw S&W mags going for like $90+ on Gun Broker, these things used to sell new for $28...Keep an eye out at gun dealers & gun  shows there may be some strays at reasonable prices...

I received 4 magazines with yellow followers-3 look pretty rough--- should I try to find a magazine for SW 10mm with a different color follower?

Midway USA sells the white followers if you want to replace those...The yellows have worked just as well in all of mine, but I purchased a few replacements to have on hand...

^^^ as above, mags with yellow followers always worked fine. I've gotten white followers from Numrich, not for the 10mm mags, for converting the single stack 40S&W mags to 10mm for use in modified 4013,4053.
If you have 4 mags,WHY do you want more. There are a lot of 10XX shooters that would love to have 4 mags for their gun.
Take them apart, clean em up,they'll look and function fine.

^^^ I'll echo oldman10mm, good advice. I disassembled my mags, cleaned them out and re-assembled. I changed the yellow followers to white just for the color consistency. I shot both yellow and white followers and have had no problems with either one. I kept the original mag springs though. One thing I did with the followers was to put a very light coat of TW-25 grease on each and run it up and down inside the mag shell. Yep, I'll have to keep an eye on them as the lube, even though it's light will hold dirt, lint, etc.

Thanks Oldman 10mm and Hamopr for suggesting to clean up mags, and treat the follower, thanks Shadow for warning on grip removal, advice Midway store for followers, and spring for heavy loads.

The serial number TFE44x9, product code 105900, special order 0254. 1076 4 1/4 barrel 10mm?

On page 297 of the Catalog of Smith & Wesson it lists Product Code 105900 as pre FBI , pre 1991. Looks like it has only had a factory round through it.

There are "no marks" under the decocker level -- has original box/sticker.

Should this go into SW for a fix?

Thank You
