I started reloading recently for my Witness Hunter in 10mm. My brass was pretty beat up and I realized I needed a 22 lb recoil spring for my pistol. Got to the range yesterday and the good news was that the brass wasn't getting mangled. Bad news, even with a 22 lb recoil spring brass was everywhere! I was finding it in around corners and just bizarre places. My only theory left is that 10mm brass actually has legs that it uses to try and get away.

Some of my brass has been reported as lower earth orbiting space debris by the International Space Station!

Now before I go test ammo I have to get the OK from NASA...

I shoot out in a pasture. I mow a patch short to help catch it, otherwise I use a fiberglass leaf rake to comb the area. Sometime itll roll up on top. Othertimes I hear the rake click on the case. I can usually operate at about 90%. 40% without area prep.

I currently find all my brass 6 - 8 feet to my right, quite close together. This is with my Grand Power P40, heavy loads. What are you guys shooting?

Well before I went to the 22lbs spring in my S&W1006 (factory 18 lbs) brass on my heavy 10mm loads would fly 25' to the 4:30 5:00 o'clock, now same 10mm loads with the 22lbs rarely go over 8' sometime 10'.
The same S&W 1006 setup shooting the 9x25 Dillon drop near my feet maybe 3' as the recoil impulse is very different.

My Glock 20 with the 22lbs spring hotter 10mm loads stay around 4' to 8'...with the 9x25 Dillon dropping at my feet.
The Glock 29 with the Wollf 21lbs spring set hotter 10mm loads 6' to 10'...with the 9x25 Dillon 3' to 6'...357Sig drop at my feet...40S&W about 2'-5'

That isn't bad at all, obviously springing them correctly helps.

My Remington R1 Hunter is sending them about 30 feet away at a 2 o clock angle. I'm losing way too much brass though as our range is mostly coastal grass. You can't hardly find it even when you saw where it hit. The spring on it is already stiff enough you need a tire iron to depress it. It's supposed to be a 22 lbs or 24 lbs. Feels more like 50lb. It's a wrestling match to put it back together. My 45's, 40's, and 9mms are a piece of cake.

They're aren't legs on the cases. There are JATOs on some and wings on others. I'm fairly certain that some come with wheels and even some kidnapped by the fairy ****ing godmother(whom I let go with a stern warning), but have yet to see legs. I'd be tempted to shoot that piece of brass. Haha.   

I'm running a 28# recoil spring and 21# main spring on my DE. The ejector is flush with the magwell as stock from Colt.

I'm getting about 12 to 15 feet 4 o'clock ejection. I'm loading my loads full house so I get what I deserve I guess. There's no point in pulling the trigger if it's not reaching its potential. Otherwise I'll set it up like a .45 when I need to make more fire(match lit) formed brass from loaded commercial ammo.

Haha the theories on 10mm are as good as good as big foot stories.

Heavy loads out of my G20/ 6" LW barrel leave the brass at about 12' with the stock, 17# spring and the 22 and 24# springs drop the brass in the same area. About 4 oclock. Light loads fall about 4-5 feet and half would land in a 5 gallon bucket. Except an ocasional one that goes strait back about 4'.

Huh........I thought the brass just vaporized upon ejection.

When my grandkids come to visit, one of their favorite past times is looking for brass. A properly motivated five year old can find anything.

I put a small radius main spring housing and a heavier spring on my Kimber and I got the brass to stay a fence post closer. I still lose a lot of brass. My Glocks are better behaved on the brass but the Kimber is much more accurate.

I have heard of a small radius firing pin stop, but not main spring housing.  Did you mis-speak or do I not know?
