I've long long been a fan of the 357 sig and now I want a 3.8" barrel for my G29 as a 9x25.i found a test, a fella using Underwood 125gr, and his average was 1522. 5 shot string was 1550,1527,1503,1532,& 1498. Will a 6 pedal Gold Dot hold up to that? I want this to be my new carry load :-D

Edit: Underwood loads the 124 XTP, as long as it don't frag, it will be my new carry load. I think the extra oomph and the XTP should be a great combination.

Am I better off with my 180 Sig V-Crowns in 10mm?

If power factor means anything, then it's no contest. A 124 at 1522 is 188.73pf,  180 @ 1178 is 212.04pf, and a 200 at 1138 is 227.60 pf.


By the way Hornady recommends the 124 XTP in 0.355" for a MV from 900 to 1700

So i would think it would depend on how often you shoot/practice with that load

The XTP is a sturdy bullet and usually will open reliably.  The Sig bullet is made by Sierra, they are OK but at the higher speeds likely shed the jacket.  That being said the Gold Dot's are a bonded bullet and would hold up well especially the one designed for the 357Sig cartridge.  I have shot some bullets that were 0.3570" dia through my 9x25 and 357Sig barrels with good results.

Someone was selling some of the new G-2 Gold Dots because there was a recall.  (couldn't find them may have sold out)

However you could use the 100% copper Barnes bullets if you really want expansion and weight retention.

You can resize 357 magnum bullets down to 9mm size. 357 magnum bullets should hold up to 357 SIG velocities.

The longer barrels do bring out the potential of the 9x25's

I ordered my barrel yesterday. My LGS ordered it for me and set it up lay away since I've been taking my wife to the neurologist for seizures and fibro.

But either way, I'm a week away from my 9x25. I found people with averages between 1525-1550 fps with the Underwood 124 XTP.  I plan to carry it with the 124gr XTP. Penetration is in the 16" range~~

Let me preface this by saying:

1.  Most of us carry 10mm, which is a little off the beaten path
2.  I do carry handloads

But, the further you deviate from "what the local PD issues" the more legal risk you take on. 

In my local jurisdiction this is pretty broad.  The local unified PD allows officers to choose between 4 calibers (9mm, 40 S&W, 357 Sig and 45 ACP) and 6 platforms (Beretta, Sig, Glock, S&W, XD/XDm and Colt 1911 Series 80).  They do not allow revolvers except off-duty and back-up.

Given that latitude and the general firearms friendly and self defense friendly status there is in my community, I don't have a lot of concerns about carrying 10mm.  It has been issued by major departments, like the FBI, Kentucky State Police and Alaska State Troopers.  It is available from most major and lots of minor ammunition companies and has a well documented ballistics profile. 

Even carrying handloads doesn't worry me a bunch as my handloads use common factory components, duplicate documented load data and factory loads from a large manufacturer.  In fact, given that this maker also uses starline brass, I would doubt even a ballistics lab would be able to successfully determine which were my handloads and which were commercially produced.

But that ends when I leave my state.  Until recently I would only carry factory ammo when I was traveling out of state, and felt uncomfortable in some locales about having 10mm rather than something more pedestrian.  I say "until recently" because recently I added a couple of HK P30 pistols to my gunsafe.  Going forward when I travel out of my home state I will opt for the P30SKS stoked with Federal 124 grain HST.  I am making that change because I feel that combination is a very legally defensible choice of ammo and gun, while still providing minimum requirements in defensive performance.

Ultimately you know best the attitudes and mores of you locale.  This means you are best equipped to answer the question.  One challenge is that the 9X25 can definitely over-drive typical 9mm JHP rounds.  But, it can be loaded with 125 grain bullets meant for 357 Mag velocities that should hold up very well.

So the question is best answered thus:  Will people in your locale accept that the ballistics, not the name of the cartridge, are what matters?  If in general, that answer is yes, I would go for it.  If not, then I might have more concern.

I think if I were to carry 9x25 Dillon for self defense I would use the Barnes 100% copper TAC-XP  for 357 Sig 125 grain, it should perform well as designed

If that's your caliber of choice then go for it. It's just like a 357 out of a short barrel. Go for it.

I see the 9x25 as everything they wanted the 357 SIG to be. An exact replica of the 357 Magnum. Only I can carry 16 of them with an X-grip.

Does anyone have any experience with Montana Gold 357 sig bullets?
Also I have a new mold: 
That I would love to cast some pure linotype boolits with. It is a HG 275 clone 130 gr SWC.  I think they will hold together. In 9mm they are very accurate.
