It should arrive by Wednesday, April 5th. made of hard injection-molded polystyrene, It's OAL is 39 inches long and can be cut to a "therapeutic" length as a "walking aid". It has a nice, sharp "horn" (at the end of the cane's hook) and ridges in the appropriate places to inflict pain when used as an impact/defense device. This is a perfect walking cane that can go anywhere (plane, bus, train) without so much as a raised eyebrow.

I can call my VA doctor and have him prescribe a cane. (I have flat feet and my ankles swell after walking a couple of miles, so I have to wear therapeutic support stockings to prevent it). Such a prescription can even get me a discount on Amtrak above and beyond my Senor discount (I'm 62 years old).

BudK has good service and fast shipping. If anyone is in the market for a nice, strong cane that can be used for personal defense and will last for many years to come, look to BudK in Moulton, Georgia. It is on the Internet. Do yourself a favor and get one of these. You can take "cane-fu" (no joke) classes so you can use the cane as a "combat staff" to best advantage. Remember: If your in a fair fight, you haven't planned very well. If you get into a fight where you can use the care as a short staff with a hook, kick your opponents @$$ into complete submission and uncouciousness. (This isn't the movies, and you have to fight to survive)! TO HELL WITH FIGHTING FAIRLY!

How was the original cane in your first post? We are waiting for a review (seriously)

Captain O

I received the United Defense Fully-Adjustable Self-Defense Cane a few days ago and had my landlord take it down from 39" to 34" in length with a circular saw. 30 seconds of polishing the end and a quick run to Rite-Aid for a pair of 7/8" Canex Cane Tips and I was set. It will flex (if you moose on it) but the cane is great! The cane is "tough as nails" and is built to withstand full weight support, high-impact and downright abuse!

It is 100% nylon reinforced polymer and won't warp, rot, peel, chip, crack or blister. It is nearly indestructible and is a nice, handsome, flat black. I like the look because it is unadorned, no flash. It is all go, no show. (That's the best kind).  ;) If I ever lose this cane, I'll be so disappointed that I'll order another as soon as I can.

I have been watching some Tai-Chi and "Cane-fu" (that's really what they're calling it) and am brushing up on my old Modern Arnis moves.

I can't recommend this cane enough. I really think that everyone should own one of these, cut it to the proper length for therapeutic use, then practice using it as a defense weapon. (You can always park it by your front door and you'll always have an impact weapon at the ready).

P.S. I kept the left over 5-inch segment to use a Kubotan. Two weapons out of one purchase. (It doesn't get much better than that, does it)?

Go ahead and buy one. Cut it off to match the break in your wrist while standing in walking shoes. Then put a Canex 7/8" Cane Tip on it. You'll appreciate how tough it is, and how readily you can use it for self-defense.

Take my word for it, you won't regret your purchase.

Look at some of the "on line" cane shops they will give you a length at which you should cut your cane. At 5' 7" I cut my cane at 34" before installing the new tip. (Believe me, you will want to buy a better tip). If you are looking for an "upgrade" Kabar makes a great Self-defense cane, but it will cost you nearly three times as much. I may look into one later, but this cane works quite well. I like it so much, I may even buy a second. (Yes, it's that good and that tough).  :)

Pablo:

Go to Fashionable Canes.com and look at their "how to size a cane". They will give you all the information that you need to cut your cane to the proper length. Then purchase your cane take it to someone with a chop saw and some heavy grit sandpaper. Cut it to the proper length smooth the end of the cane and slip on the Canex 7/8" Cane Tip (buy them in a two pack) and you'll be just fine.
