9x25 Dillon too powerful for me

Too much either for me or for the G29 or maybe both. Talk about a fire breather.  :o

I don't know if I want to keep it or sell it. I bought it because of curiosity.

Whew!

ETA: I almost forgot. I got the Wolff spring at 21# and it was better. Still it recoiled so hard that the stippling dug into my hand.

Again it handled the 40sw like a dream. Real easy to shoot them.

"Fire breather"   :))

Reminds me of the first time I saw one at the USPSA match's back in the day.
First time I ever wanted to wear body armor to protect myself from the concussion and blast coming from the comp.  Ear plugs and muffs were mandatory to RO someone shooting one of those things. :o

BEEMER!

I tried to shoot pistol silhouette for a couple of years.  I got tired of the recoil from a 44 mag so I bought a 10" 357 maximum barrel for my Contender.

Talk about muzzle blast.  I was told to leave that barrel at home by the other shooters.

As I recall it was created to have more gas to drive the compensator, and abandoned as it gave the shooters tennis elbow.

Man up boys!   :D   That's why I like to handload my very own, I can say that mine do breathe some fire especially those with Blue Dot...   As for as recoil, I'm not sensitive to that and still shoot the 44's and 357's with fairly heavy doses!

The factory length barrel of the G-29 does BARK and FLASH quite a bit.  The longer barrels like the 6.02" for the Glock 20SF is much better for accuracy, recoil and taming of the flames, however I never did like a ported or compensated setup because the report is more pronounced at the shooter especially with some bullets approaching 2100 fps.

Not sure what powder Underwood is loading in his stuff these days an that may be part of the experiences you are seeing and feeling!  We should pull one down to examine the workings... ::)

But my poor arthritic hand.  ::)

By the way, your 44s and 357s have heavy frames, not the G29. I should've saw that coming.  ???

Your close.  It was created because it was known you could safely make Major Power Factor (175 back then) with the 9X25 with 115 gr bullets.  The other contender, the 38 Super, held more ammo in the magazine but it was also known that several shooters who tried it acquired "38 Superface" from the primer letting go and spraying the shooters face with burning powder gases.

Even with those early comp designs, the 9X25 was the first gun I ever shot that had negative recoil.  It was pushing so much gas through the comp it would push the muzzle down and away from you.

The demise of the 9X25 in USPSA was due to mainly magazine capacity.  Giving up 4 rounds in the mag was a huge disadvantage but there were other reasons.

Gunsmiths improved compensator designs for the smaller cases that worked just as well, with less gas.
Mainly, USPSA lowered major Power Factor to 170 and handloaders perfected loading the 38 Super to the new Power Factor safely, giving us new case designs like the 9 & 38 Supercomp, 9X21, 38 TJ, re-discovering old calibers like the 9mm Largo and finally, the almost stillborn 9X23 Winchester.

115 gr bullets traveling almost 1600 f.p.s. was also hard on the steel plates we love to shoot so much.  Many clubs placed a 1500 f.p.s. velocity restriction on competitors to try and save their rather large investment in steel plates and poppers.

When USPSA lowered the Power Factor to 165 and started allowing 9mm Luger to play in open division, even the 38 supers started to lose favor due to cost of brass.

The elbow problems cropped up mainly in Limited division using the 40.  I know my first Limited gun used a heavy full profile slide to help slow down the recoil.  But that bulky reciprocating mass of steel was hard on the shooters.  My tendonitis got so bad I had to take a full year off from shooting.  My second attempt had a milled, light weight slide with more static weight.  It made a huge difference but today, I mainly shoot 9mm in Production division.

Sorry, I ramble when I reminisce.

Sounds like victory.

Ordering an RMW 9x25 16". Hope they still make them!

Since I have 30 rounds of UMC 40sw 180 and 50 rounds of Uw 9x25 124 I couldn't resist going back to the range. I don't know what it is about the 9x25 that I've been shooting to the left but I started to get the hang of it. On my last 30 rounds of 9x25 I started hitting around the center of the target by moving my front sight closer to the right rear post.

The 40sw always shot well with my G29 and I'm going to carry 40sw then. The new springs helped a lot with the 40sw.

It seems the barrel just needs to be broken in with use and it should get better with more use...

It would have been nice to see what UW was loading in his newer 9x25's.  He use to load with 800X, but it's possible he may have switched over to the LOVEX powders...

You fellas think I need to move away from the stock spring before I carry the Underwood 9x25 Nosler Bonded?
