Greetings everyone,

I've always loaded for my rifles, but this is my first time reloading for pistol, so I could use some advice.

I am using Lee carbide 40/10mm dies.  I noticed that when I deprimed my once fired brass that the 10mm case was thicker at the bottom of the brass casing.  How do I ensure that the entire case length is the same diameter?

I saw a youtube vid where the guy had a resizing die from Redding.  Must I use it in order to make sure the case is the same the entire length?

I have 1k of virgin Starline brass as well, but I wanted to load develop with my once fired brass before I start using the virgin brass.

After I deprimed, I took the deprimed case and put it in the Storm Lake 10mm barrel and the case fits in the chamber.  I was concerned since the bottom of the case was a larger diameter than top of the case.  I know with rifles this could cause an issue with chamber(IE needing to use small base dies).

I'll be using Long Shot as my powder and CCI 300 primers.

When in doubt, mic it out.  The case should be .425 max at the case head.  As long as it meets that spec, should be good to go.

As you have discovered, a barrel makes a decent case gauge as well.  If the sized brass falls all the way into and out of the chamber, you are fine.

As mentioned, your barrel is a good test as you'll shoot it in that... Or a Go/No go gauge ( about $25 ) which will assure the ammo will fit in any gun.

If you really want to get the ammo entirely resized, you can pull the guts out of a Lee FCD and run the case thru from bottom to top ( sort of like the redding resizer )

Pass-Through sizing reaches the areas not touched by conventional dies/shell holders or shell plates.  I pass through size using the LEE FCD with the guts removed and a bullet sizing push pin.  Greatly improves feeding and function.  See link posted above...

I do all 10mm / 40S&W / 357Sig / 9x25 Dillon with the 10mm/40S&W FCD.  I also do 45ACP and 380ACP with their appropriate FCD dies, 9mm takes a different FCD to perform a Pass-Through using a 9x18mm (9mm Makarov) FCD to perform that pass through...

I'm curious as to the makarov die need to do the 9x19, i do use the 40 FCD for all stated above tho and should probably buy the setup to do the 9's just in case.

The 9mm is a tapered casing and the Lee 9mm is too tight to do the pass through operation with respect to the base of the casing.
Whereas the 9x18mm (9mm Makarov) FCD has worked for that step with good results...

9mm extraction rim is 0.3940"  above the extractor cut it is 0.3910"
9x18 extraction rim is 0.3920"  above the extractor cut it is 0.3915"

I ordered the bulge buster kit...I found the answer after I posted this thread.  I remembered reading it last year, but forgot about it until today.
