What is the biggest animal you would feel comfortable taking on with a 10mm handgun?  I know Razor Dobbs has shot a Cape Buffalo with one but I haven't seen the video. 

May go on an "exotics" trip next summer and try it on something.

Never seen Razor take a Cape Buffalo.... Seen a video of Ted Nugent finishing off a wounded Cape Buffalo that got up to charge him with one.

I have seen Razor take a Bull Elk, he and several others have taken big deer and big wild pigs.

I've personally taken a 300lbs wild boar with mine.

Guy in Alaska used one earlier in the year successfully to kill a charging grizzly (shot himself in the foot too though). 

In lower 48, in a pinch I'd use on grizzly (interior brown bear) sized animal on down although I'd strongly prefer 44 mag or greater for work on griz (brown bear).  Beyond that, I wouldn't sweat most places in the lower 48 with a 10mm as back up protections.  I'd probably chose something else (in a magnum) if I was hunting Buffalo or Elk but for walking around the woods in the contiguous US....15+1 of real deal 10mm out of Glock 20 (wfn cast,  xtp, bonded bear tooth) is pretty good medicine. 

My smallest 44mag is a Vaquero, I traded an XD45 for it, the guy bought it new to carry elk hunting in MT for bear protection. Big bears in MT I think I would want a bit more firepower lol. For years I hunted in bear country in CO and WY with a 1911 45acp for my sidearm. Wish I would have known of the 10mm back then. One year, after hearing of a bear attack in our area, I packed my SRH .454 around. Would have felt just as secure with a 10.

I personally view the 10mm as being pretty much a .357 Mag round. A lot of overlap in their performance envelopes.

With that, I would consider the 10mm to be inadequate for Cape Buffalo.

While I appreciate the 10mm round and carry one daily, when I'm in forests in the lower 48 that have grizzly bears, I carry my Ruger Redhawk loaded with Buffalo Bore 340gr rounds. Buffalo Bore has them leaving its 5.5" barrel at about 1400 ft/s. When I shoot those rounds, the 10mm feels pretty weak in comparison.

Personally, I'd rather have a serious rifle for "taking on" a Cape Buffalo.

I own some big handguns. We had some un- hardened plate steel rounds 1/4" thick 12" diameter.
Hot 44mag both 240 and 200 gr put a nice dent. Hot(1540fps) 300gr gold dot .50 AE put a deeper dent. 260 and 325gr .454casull put a very deep dent with stretch marks- almost made it through.
.500 S&W 8-3/8bbl 385gr Rem JHP ripped right through it- dont have a .460, but I think it would have penetrated as well. I would trust either one for a back up on any dangerous game.
   5.56 55gr fmj punched clean holes(almost looked like it was drilled)- what a wicked round we came up with.

I really appreciate the replies. I was asking in the context of hunting. I guess anything that can betaken with the 357 can be taken with the 10mm

Just my opinion, but I would not "hunt" anything bigger than a Whitetail/med pig with a .357/10mm. Now I am pretty sure a 10mm would kill much larger animals in a defensive/emergency situation.

On that Alaska or Maine TV show A guy killed a cow moose couple shots as it mauled his outside tied dog. As the cameras got there the cow was dead in driveway. He plainly said 10MM handgun.

Just taken deer with mine, maybe 180# biggest.

Having shot a Blue Wildebeest with a Glock 20 and 180gr XTP's, I would not recommend that load for thick skinned game or bears.
To much expansion and insufficient penetration, find a suitable hard cast of FMJ flat point bullet that feeds well in your pistol.

I found it, but it's a load of bs that people are harassing him over the bear.

my sentiments exactly!  if I was in big bear country, I would  carry my S&W 629 .44 mag. over my 10mm witness when all I had was a pistol. I have no doubt the 10 mm would kill a big bear it's been proven. when I was hunting or otherwise had a large caliber rifle handy, I would carry the 10mm as back up.

I'd want a S&W 460 or 500, or at the "bear" minimum, a Ruger Alaskan 454.
