I think I want one.

I really like commander barrel length.  It is what the whole world has really gone to for "full-size".  Almost every service auto out there has a 4.25-4.5" barrel.

Personally, in a 1911, I like the CCO concept.  the 4.25" barrel with the officers frame.  Makes a nice tidy package, but with the benefit of the longer, more reliable 4.25" barrel.  I especially like this in a double stack:



That gun in the front is my still not completed P12/10mm CCO project gun.

I've never had or shot a CCO, but I love a bobbed tail. It gives my pinkie something to hang on to and still hides well.

- Dawson Precision full length guide rod and bushing. One piece stainless steel.
- Novak bar/dot night sights
- Ambi slide safety
- Larry Davidson Gyro-Spiral grip panels (minus the 'Spiral')

I was in California at the time, that's why the frame conversion was needed. Now, I live in a state where I could have bought a Commander style bare frame to build on.

It shoots full power ammo. I went with the STI slide because of how they're made. Figured they would better withstand 10mm pressures on the breech face. The Bar-Sto barrel doesn't have conventional barrel lugs. Instead it has a broad base of metal that impinges the frame. The flat bottom firing pin stop helps slow the slide.   

Here is my rendition.  RIA TAC with complete makeover.  It was problematic at first.  But after sticking with it and sending it in to RIA, it is now running perfectly.  I use it as my sidearm when bowhunting.

I am all about the "Semi Compact" set-up (full sized Frame with a compact length Upper)
My DTD Carry is an all steel, Witness Semi Compact (DuoTone) in 10mm

I have a RIA MS (commander length) in 10mm and so far I like it.  When researching,  I guess, at least from what I've read, is that there isn't much difference in accuracy from gov't to commander, except for the extra difference in sight acquisition being a bit more refined, due to the length.  But as for the accuracy of the barrel, from say a rest, they function the same.  And of course you will lose some velocity, but here's where the 10mm shines in my perspective.  Lost velocity in the 45acp would suck, at least for range, accuracy and hunting, just because of the already slower speeds.... but the flat shooting .40 bullet (I think because of ballistic coefficient and speed) in a 10mm.... well, 180 grns at 1150 fps (while maybe would be 1200 fps out of a 5" barrel) still rocks any game out there, and is accurate with less drop is still awesome, so i didn't worry about the extra .75", plus, walking in the woods with it.... I don't miss the extra weight I'm sure...  and if you get a threaded barrel, like me, you may want to stick to the shorter length, to then have overall an almost 5" barrel, instead of a 5.5" barrel on a full slide.

I also wanted a commander size 10mm 1911 pistol and was having trouble finding one with a light rail. I contacted DW and they made me a special order stainless Specialist 10mm commander. The commander size 1911 just fits my hand better than a government size. This one is replacing my DW Silverback 10mm as my EDC gun.

My DW was $2,100. That was for everything, including shipping to my FFL dealer. The pistol is all stainless steel, night sights, magwell, match barrel, match trigger, and light rail.

Hmmmm, my custom made Fusion Firearms was cheaper than that. But I went the opposite direction and got me a long slide.

I'm not 100% with posting pictures, but, here goes. DW 10mm Specialist Commander stainless. I am slowly working on polishing the stainless by hand. So, the finish might look a little off right now. I switched out the VZ grips with RAASCO maroon micarta grips. I haven't shot it yet. I 'll probably get to the range in another week or so.
