Rock Island Armory M1911-A1 Tactical II 10mm for 558 worth it?

I'm looking hard at this pistol. Very hard...its the cost of a Glock 20...but steel and a 1911 pattern. I am very wondering if this one would be worth it. I like having two guns in the same caliber usually. I already got a glock 40 but from my experience having two of the came cartridge does come in handy.

Would this be a good one to have for secondary 10mm. Or would I be better off getting ammo?

My RIA has been very solid, a good shooter. Some have reported problems, but I've had none. And if you shoot 10mm you really need to load your own to get the most out of your guns.

Thanks..its either this or reloading stuff...I can only get one more.

I'll probably use my 10mm like my 6.8 SPCs, hunting and medium sized problem critter removal like feral dogs. For blasting and practice is why I got a few 5.56s for. And my blasting and main practice are my two Ruger 9mm. Man I wish Ruger made a 10mm!

Logic says get a Glock 20 but well...1911 pattern steel frame putting aside the usual MAX AMMO AS ONE CAN GET IN A MAG line of thought seems pretty logical also.

Any one got any EEA suggestions for a full bore at least 5" barrel option that can handle full powered like buffalo bore ammo?

For an EEA one I found this EAA Corp Witness 10mm 15rd 4.5-inch STL WF for 481 listed...

From what I've heard the EAA have no problem handing full power 10mm. Other members who have them will chime in today.

Just about any EAA 10mm will handle anything on the market and stuff that would never make it too  ;D

The 4.75" models get closest to the size you want. Take a look at a Match.

Second confidence in EAA handling the hot stuff.  It is the sturdiest 10mm on the market right now as far as chamber support.  Glock gets there with an aftermarket barrel.

While I definitely think the number of guns you need (Gn) can be defined by a function:

    Gn = Ghave + 1

I would say get your reloading gear.  Unless the RIA is going to fill some critical need, the ability to make ammo trumps another gun that you can't shoot if ammo dries up.

OK...so I need to reload and get another 10mm according to you!  ;D  Very appealing throught.

Any after market barrels for the EEA platforms to make them 6". I got a 6" LW one for my glock 40 to avoid smilies for real 10mm loadings.

Not real cheap, but should work.  The barrel will have a small semi-circle of steel on the hood that you file down for your easy fit.  Takes about 3 minutes to fit one.

I would try the Rock Island first if I could. I had one, it went back to the factory twice... It would not feed the hot loads so I traded to a 1911 smith who said he could put some time in it and make it run well. I was very disappointed because it looks good feels great in the hand and it's a really cool pistol. I've heard others had very good luck with the Rock Island 10 mm although mine was garbage with that gun. On the other hand my Rock Island 45 was perfect

Below is my RIA 10mm. No regrets and it shoot like a dream. RIA makes great guns at a great price. I would buy another in a minute.

I'm new to my RIA 10mm, got the 4.25 inch bull barrel, put about 300 rounds through it and love it, especially for the price.  I had a choice, too, between the Glock (5 or 6 inch model with redot attachement?) and RIA, only a small difference in price as well.

I went with the RIA, because supposedly glocks tend not to like cast bullets, something to do with how the barrel is made-helix or helicon fancy wording barrel stuf, LOL, which eventually I'd like to cast my bullets (do now for shotgun).  So that took the Glock out of my mind, may to you as well being a reloader.  Also, I like the 1911 platform, glocks are hard for me to work under "feel", mostly slide release magazine release.  But that's personal preference.

Glocks don't like cast bullets mainly because of their comically oversized groove diameter.  All mine are over .402", when 10mm spec is .399-.400.  That means commerically cast bullets will always be too small, allowing plasma by the sides of the bullet as it travels the bore. Basically a plasma cutter jet.

I shoot lots of cast in my Glock, but I size them all .402+.  No issues.  Even easier now that I powder coat.

That said, the RIA is a solid gun.
