I just ordered some of the Federal Trophy Bonded 180gr loads for an up coming hog hunt.
I hope they will work all right in my older Dan Wesson 1911, pre-ramped barrel gun,  similar of course to the Colt Delta Elite.

I have not shot a hog before, and I hear how tough they are, but is not what I  would call real wild boar hunting we will be doing. We will probably be shooting 100 to 150lb hogs,  maybe smaller. I know many say to shoot behind the ear, but I like the idea of the shoulder shot, but have been told it takes a really good bullet to get through the shoulder, because of the grizzle plate or whatever.

Has anyone taken a hog on here with this factory load? About all  I have killed with my 10mm has been dispatching a couple of downed cows we gave up on, and I felt it did a really  good job on those.

Hopefully, these loads won't be too hot for the unsupported chamber of my Dan Wesson Razorback.

All comments welcome.

I have never used that ammo or shot a hog with my 10mm yet. but I'm sure it will work fine on any hog under 200 lbs. if you go for the shoulder shot, remember that the vitals on a hog are real LOW on the chest.the elbow of the front leg is my favorite aiming point. (other than the ear hole) good hunting!

I've used the Trophy Bond on wild hog and it'll work well.....  If you put it where it needs to go.
Also taken a large boar with Underwood 200gr XTP (the story, details can be found on this forum).
Some other good choices on hogs size you referenced:
Sig Sauer 180gr vcrown jhp
Underwood 180gr Gold Dot
Most warm, full power ammo that utilizes Hornady's XTP bullet.
Buffalo Bore 155gr Tac-xp

I've only taken a couple wild hogs with my 10mm but taken dozens with rifles over the years.  I'm partial to the behind ear shot myself too.  CNS shots are only way to be absolute certain to flip the switch; regardless if your using a 300 winmag or 10mm...
If you shot a 150lbs hog through the heart and or lungs it's going to die...  The unpredictable part is if its a
bang flop or bang pig run for 10 to 150 yards and your looking for it.  Trust me, they're tough as hell and it can go either way.  Seen it myself.  I've personally seen hogs absorb incredible boiler room hits which decimated lungs and heart and it still ran almost 100yrds (that one was 308 Winchester using Hornady SST) before piling up.  Also shot 180lbs sow same rifle and ammo combo and hit her alittle to far back and high, between spine and gut; but was she keeled over DRT.
Really enjoy hog hunting. Have fun, stay safe and expect the unexpected when hunting them.

I've shot a couple of hogs with 180gr XTP's and one Blue Wildebeest. The Federal TBBC's will give better penetration than any other non-hard cast bullet in the 10mm, you can shoot them just about anywhere in the front half of the body and you will be just fine.

Well, I am going hog hunting later this week, hope to get a chance at close range with the Dan Wesson 10mm. I shot some of the Federal Trophy Bonded 180gr bullets, tonight.
I ran about 40 rounds through it, 1 shot at a time out to about 50yds. I was loosing the light, as the sun was going down, but all in all, I believe I can make a good hit out to about 50yds.
But I hope to get a shot a lot closer. My gun ran fine , no malfunctions, but it never has malfunctioned on me, regardless of the ammo, and recoil didn't seem that bad. So, we will  see.

I have been looking for 10mm Trophy Bonded bullets forever and can not find them. Where did you get them at?

Hope to try these out on a hog myself.
