This may answer some of the issues; http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/04/25/kriss-going-bankrupt/

But yes to have the Sphinx like this one;

That's a shame if the company isn't purchased by somebody who could do a better job of marketing. i know it would be expensive, but I would of been interested in buying one if they could keep the price close to that of the Sig 220 in 10MM.

Thank you for the info, not encouraging though... I would be prepared to pay a stack of cash for one of  those gems.
Years back, I handled a 9mm sphinx at kittery trading post and I still remember how tight and smooth it was.

EAA Stock III... available and almost identical.

"Almost identical", as in, they're both black?

Square trigger guard, full length dust cover, grip, rail, adjustable rear sight, DA/SA  ;D It's like the Pepsi/Coke challenge  :D

Similarities. That describes about 1/2 the semi-auto pistol variations, ever. It has as much or more in common with S&W or CZ, than Tanfo's. Coke and Pepsi share the same ingredients. These pistols do not. It's more like comparing Motosacoche and Moto Guzzi. The pattern platforms are very different, and each are variations of existing patterns. I've handled and fired both, Stock III and Sphinx, and they are not similar at all. The Sphinx is infinitely more refined, out of the box, not unlike some custom 1911's. Aesthetic and ergonomic comparisons are a matter of preference.

  If you can get him one I'm all for it. Otherwise, it's vaporware here and what's the next best option for him? Maybe I missed that part?

I didn't realize Hickok did a video of the 9mm competition version. Which one did you shoot? The 10mm pictured here?

The aluminum framed version like this one might be tough with 10mm full-power loads. If I had $3,000 and could get one in the U.S.... sure. The new Shadow 2 might be kind of similar, but not being offered in 10mm as well.

I believe it was an early production SDP full size. Models offered may be of different metals specific to mission, so I doubt that would be a factor of durability. If I were in the market for such a pistol, it would be on my short-list.

isn't the Sphinx also a CZ 75 clone?

Damn, 3k $??? I have about 2 grand stashed so that would be a reach. I think I will follow your lead and grab a hunter next..
My distant recollection of fondling a sphinx brings back superlatives such as smooth and tight and that is always a good thing 8)...

Sort of. While it is patterned after the CZ75, they are very different pistols. Not unlike the many "clones" patterned after the 1911, which aren't really clones. CZ makes some fine pistols. I've had several over the years, and still have one (CZ83), which is my wife's preferred carry piece.

I sent Sphinx an e-mail and inquired if they were going to produce the 3000 in 10mm and they unfortunately said "No." First the disappointment from VLTOR regarding their failure to produce the new Bren Ten pistol after all the fan fare they put out. Now Sphinx showing no interest in producing a 10mm. Will just have to be content with my 10mm 1911 pistols.
