I. sent another email yesterday to Remington asking for as real 10mm HST round...I asked for 180g or 200...and requested they be at least 1200+fps saying we don't need another FBI special watered down load. Got their standard reply saying she would pass on my request... Lol

Well it isn't Remington that used the HST...Federal was the one that used HST projectiles.


Remington used the Golden Saber projectiles, if they would be a bonded bullet they would be truly great performers!

I would love to see the HST in a 10mm factory load. I carry the 124gr 9mm load about everyday in my Glock 19.

I think they would probably need a different/tougher bullet than the one they load in the .40 as the HST isn't a bonded bullet. Assuming of course it isn't loaded to .40 velocity.

Pretty sure Raggedyman did a test of one that he handloaded. Was high 12ish if I remember. Looked pretty impressive. Federal is losing money by not doing this.

Sometimes when you find a really good bullet,that is in a weak load is to pull it and put some good juice behind it..... Kinda like 800x for those rounds

This was brought up but to emphasize it, the .40 180gr HST is a good bullet that is very specifically designed around typical .40 velocity.    I was testing some handload .40's, all of which were 180gr doing around 1250 fps (G35 w/Longshot will get you there) and I pulled a 180gr HST as one of the options and it doesn't hold up to ~1250 fps.    For the HST to be released for the 10mm either it would be loaded similarly to .40 velocity (maybe an extra 100 fps?) or they would have to re-engineer the bullet to hold together better if they were to load it warmer (this is why the 10mm 180gr HydraShok is loaded so low, that bullet won't hold together for squat if pushed much faster).  The problem with just wanting to throw velocity at an existing bullet is that if the bullet isn't designed for it, it comes apart and that causes penetration to suffer greatly, which is a BAD thing even if it has more "energy".

I do think that if they were to offer a 200gr .40 S&W HST that had an even deeper hollow cavity, it could expand to nearly 230gr .45 HST levels and penetrate even more with a target velocity of ~950-975 fps from 4" service pistols.

This is why I favor 200 grain Nosler or XTP's for 10mm.  I trade some velocity for a heavier bullet, get more momentum and a bit more penetration, and a bullet/velocity profile that gives good expansion and good weight retention.

I know there are arguments for faster bullets that "grenade" on impact, but that isn't my thing.

A 200 grain HST in 10mm loaded to 1150 would be a great round.

Yes very nice post 45BBH, the weak link is the case head of the 40 and it needs to be respected and supported.

It is why I had invested in the Bar-Sto 40S&W conversion barrel early on for my S&W1006.  Man, I wish I would have bought others and more of them...I still hold on to the glimmer of hope for BM1 to be able to finish those S&W  barrels he had started.
