I am building my first AR style rifle....

Any suggestions on buffer and spring?

Thanks for your time!

Heavy and stiff.  You need about 3 lbs back there including the bolt, and springs don't count.  So a 11 oz buffer cuts you down to a 2 lb bolt.

Or, build a true DI upper.  10mm has plenty of gas pressure to run a gas system.  Seems like most guys with blowback 10mm AR's complain about chasing brass and having to run 10mm lite, whereas guys with a gas system are very happy.

Pablo and I both have 10mm ARs from Ron Williams at RMW Extreme. I have a Quarter Circle10 lower. He has grease gun mag lower. These are Direct Impingement (gas). Several other members have these.

I wanted what I have because I wanted to use "real AR" accessories. Trigger group, safety, Magpul stock, etc. This is main advantage of RMW Extreme. Can run full auto if your local laws allow, mine don't. Probably suppressed too, but you would have to talk to Ron on that.

Disadvantages: more time to debug your magazines, because of the AR bolt I think, but I really don't know for sure

The Mech-Tech is blow back and it uses Glock pistol lower or 1911 lower.
Hopefully The Mech-tech owners will chime in. I think main advantage is cost because they are selling you just an upper and the blow-back design is simpler.
Disadvantages: Not really an AR, you are trying up one of your pistol frames.

It's interesting - if you go DI AR, think light. All moving parts must be exactly that, light and free moving. Basically because even though 10mm is relatively high pressure, it's not the pressure and volume of a shouldered rifle cartridge.

If suppressed is allowed it might be worth the stamp as a suppressor will increase the available gas to the gas system without compromising velocity.

Thanks for the input!

I should probably mention I have already acquired a Quarter Circle 10 lower and bolt, Gibbz Arms side charging upper with floating 15.5 inch hand guards, ACE LTD SOCOM buttstock.... Just missing the 16inch barrel, buffer and spring.

While its not a cheap build, it is a quality one!

Almost forgot to mention I have a Rock River Arms lower build kit with 2 stage trigger installed too.

We demand pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D :D

QC10 recalled the bolt, so I am missing that as well.

However, I am impressed the did it on their own volition and are paying for me to ship it back.  It's nice to see a company stand behind what they manufacture.

That would be the way to go, IMO... no "end user" R&D required!
Ya gotta PAY to PLAY, but when I PAY, I expect to PLAY, not WORK  :o

Any update? ;D

Kinda....

Quarter Circle 10 is still testing the 10mm barrels but plan to have them available after Shot Show 16 (end of January)

Otherwise I have everything for the build.

I went with a heavy Wolff spring and a carbine buffer I can adjust from 12.5oz down to 5oz

The bolt and carrier have been returned too.

Edit: Corrected buffer weight
