For fit, function, reliability, etc which 1911 is the best value for a hunting pistol?

RIA, one caveat it could possibly need to go back (once) to the factory. Great guns for the money, but unfortunately mass production has it's draw backs. I love *mine and I've got 5 different 10mm 1911's.

Out of the box Dan Wesson.  It is far from the cheapest, nor would it be my first choice, but I would have a high degree of confidence it would run from day one.

Personally, I would buy a RIA.  But I would do so being aware that it may need some "tweaking".  I could get two RIA's for the price of one Dan Wesson.

I have a RRA in .22TCM/9mm combo that didn't need modifications, but 10mm is a different animal.

The Glock 20, Gen 4 and I are just not getting along, mainly because I have small hands and between the grip size and trigger length of pull (short fingers) I have a tendency to pull the muzzle downward. Too bad really since I upgraded to a KKM barrel, drop-in trigger group, Trijicon HD night sights, Wolff SS guide rod ,and even bought a 22lr converstion kit.

The 1911 just seems to fit me better.

PS: Would like to hear about any stainless models too.

Ria seems like the obvious choice.

Not the cheapest but the Para Elite Longslide Hunter great gun but they are not making them now.  If you should happen to come across one they are very nice.  Mine flawless

If you are willing to deal with some possible teething pains getting your gun to run, RIA is definitely the one of the best contenders out there.

RIA sort of has it.  They are not bad.  They have one in a LGS down here for $499.  Looks like it has Novak type adjustable rear sights and VZ type grips.  Just not sure I want another 10mm 1911.

$499 is a good price.

RIA is fine, but be prepared to drop about $300.00 in it (ramped match barrel, flat bottomed firing pin retainer and slightly heavier hammer spring) to make the pistol "sing".

already comes with a ramped barrel, and I expect the barrel shoots better than anyone on this forum.  Flat bottom FPS and 25# hammer spring are well advised, though only about $40.

What he said, the barrel is not only ramped, but also a Bull barrel. Unlike some others, my RIA never had a failure that was caused by the firearm. A bad primer pocket on a reload yes, but nothing that was a problem with the function of the gun.
