Hope you all are well.  Looks like this place as really grown.  Its been a while since I've been around these parts. I finished up a second degree, got licensed for that degree and been doing some on the job training. I really haven't done any loading, hunting or shooting in a while.  I had actually sold my Glock 20C and haven't had a 10mm in quite a while.  But that has all changed....



I finally found a RIA 10mm Tac II at a decent price.  $569 shipped off of Gunbroker. I added the grips from SPD Custom grips and changed out the stock springs right away.  I opted for 20# Wolff springs.  Took it to the range for its maiden voyage yesterday.  I haven't loaded any 10 in a while so needless to say I was out of ammo.  Purchased a box of Hornady 180gr rounds.  Had a couple of jam ups yesterday, but not sure if its the heavier springs with watered down factory ammo or if its the gun just being new and takes some rounds to get everything loosened up.  Now I just need to get some rounds in the cabinet/down range and extra mags.  I got some reading to do here. 53 pages of unread posts since my last visit.  Plus, I want learn a little more about whats been working for you guys with these guns and what hasn't.  My dad used up my handloaded 10mm in his Witness with 22# springs and they worked flawlessly. 180 gr XTP with 9.4gr Longshot.  So I think I will start there. 

Welcome back, looking at your picture of the RIA, could the magazine bumper be holding the magazine a little low?
It could be that it just needs to loosen up and need more lube on the slide frame rails.  Anyway good luck ironing out the jam ups.

I'm looking at those grips and going "Oh wow!" But isn't one of RIA's selling points the VZ grips they put on them?

I have the fs and ms and the stock mag caused problems with both, tripp mags and kimber have been good for me. You may want to up the mainsping and install a flat bottom firing pin stop. If we are going to talk grips I love these.

As you can see, several guys on here have the RIA, and the issues you are experiencing aren't unique, but are addressable.  With any 1911 the first step for me is a flat bottom firing pin stop, and if 10mm, a heavier main (hammer) spring.  I usually stick with the 18.5 lb recoil spring personally.

10mmFan has the ticket on magazines.  I also have found some bullet profiles don't play nice in my gun if I load longer than 1.250".

The bumper don't seem to be holding up on anything. This is the factory mag.  I also picked up a stainless MecGar 8 round mag.  I fired a full mag from the factory and aftermarket mags yesterday. I had one fail to feed (actually, round was about halfway into the chamber) from each mag.  I was looking at the Wilson Combat mags, but Ill take a peek at the Tripp mags also.

When I ordered the Wolff 20# recoil spring, it also came with an "extra power" firing pin spring.  That was changed out also.  So please forgive me, I am not sure what the "main spring " is.  Ill look into the flat bottom firing pin stop.

The VZ grips are a selling point to these, but I wanted to personalize it and dress it up a little bit.

ETA: I figured out what the main spring is.  Im going to research that a little bit more.  But otherwise I though the trigger pull was fine. Then again Ive only pulled it 18 times.

Water buffalo horn they are custom made in Vietnam I will post the link tomorrow when I can. Shipping takes a while but they are worth it.

I went down to my reloading bench in the basement and dug out my log book, the boxes my loads were previously stored in, and my Hornady manual.  My load is actually 7.4 grains of Longshot. SO if your going to grab someone elses recipies, make sure you either reduce it and work up or cross reference it with other materials.  Hopefully no one stuffed 9.4 grains into a case and are now heading to the range with them. 

This is why I always kinda shake my head when I read a post asking for other peoples recipes.  If you are asking for 2007 Alliant data, that is one thing.  Shadow often posts up scans of old reloading literature.  This is often very useful if you have powder from that era, as sometimes powder changes a bit throughout different batches.

But just asking if anyone has a recipe for something seems to be begging either for a load that won't work in your gun, or a typo to cost you a gun and possibly your hands and eyes.

I am also often shocked at the guys that will spend 1K on a Dillon press with every gizmo, but can't be bothered to buy even one reloading manual.

Maybe because Dillons are so expensive they don't have any money LEFT for a manual!

Um, I always thought the reloading manuals were supposed to be the purchase BEFORE the press...  I too shake my head when I see those post on other forums!
