I've been wanting to get a 10mm for some time and now I'm having an issue choosing which 10mm pistol to purchase.

I like the price on the RIA, but I'm concerned since some have had issues with their 10mm in the past...seems like issues aren't as common as they once were.  I already have 1911 holsters, so that would be a big plus with going with the RIA.  Another plus is I'd want to carry the 10mm and a 1911 isn't an issue for me to carry.  I'm not too concerned about having 8rds, but of course I wouldn't mind having 15rds available.

I am also considering EAA Elite Match, Stock, etc etc.  I actually found a used hunter for a good price as well.  With EAA I'm concerned that it won't fit my hand well.  I handled an Elite Match in 9mm a few years ago and it wasn't bad.  A G20 is just slightly too wide for my comfort level, so Glock is out.  I like the capacity of EAA, but I don't hear too many on this forum stating that they carry their EAA pistols.  I doubt I'd go with the polymer 10mm.

There are some locals selling Elite Match...the one guy has an EM in 9mm along with a 10mm conversion slide.

I know that in the end it will be my final decision.

What I need is a pistol I can carry.  Ammo capacity is nice if more, but it's not a deal breaker.

If ya don't mind tinkering the RIA ain't a bad pistol( heck  I had to tinker with my kimber too)....as for the match I use mine as a truck gun I ain't goin to carry it with out a good holster. Which is my only problem with it.

If you go with a 1911 you will end up doing something to it, personally I enjoy it but if aren't the tinkering type it may not be for you. I have two ria's a kimber and a witness p carry and I mainly carry the commander length ria 10mm.

Is there a noticeable difference in recoil from Government compared to Commander?  I enjoy tinkering.

I haven't noticed any difference but I do have a heavier mainsping in it.

oh and a presto gun blue pen is your best friend with a ria...ask me how i know

I cerakoted the full size and I still need to do the kimber and commander

I don't jnow. Instead of jumping right into the fancy shmantzy expensive 10mm like I did. (But do NOT regret it! ;)) You might want to start with a lower price model just so if you don't really like it you aren't out a BIG wad of money. What kind of platform do you like best? I suppose the cheapest 1911 style pistol would be an RIA. For a striker fire, there are Glocks to be had for not a whole lot of cash. Or an EAA if you like a polymer grip. (I don't, but that's a personal dislike)

On the other hand I just keep drooling at that new SIG P220 in 10mm that just came out, but they are not cheap. :o
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

RIA Rock Ultra HC 10mm.

It is a 1911, which you like and are comfortable with.

It is a HC (think Para Ordnance type frame) so you get 16+1, or 15+1 after you ditch the goofy mag well which isn't really needed on a tapered magazine body and buy a Mec-Gar flush fit magazine for carry.  Also, pick up a couple of Triple K P16-40 mags.  They will hold 17 rounds of 10mm goodness.

My Para P16-40/10mm is smaller than my EAA witness full-size, and a good bit smaller than my Match.  Poor EAA's are basically range guns at this point.

That is my 2ยข

I consider myself more of a 1911 guy but I'd say reconsider the Glock 20 or 29.  They are knockaround guns that carry well in the outdoors.  I know you said Glocks are out but I'm offering my opinion just in case you haven't truly given them a chance yet.

Cabelas had an RIA tactial with rial in 10mm...the pistol itself is heavier than my 45ACP, but it wasn't bad.  I own a few holsters for 1911, so I didn't want to get the railed version.

G20 is just slightly too wide for my liking.  I even looked at the 4th Gen G20 and it still wasn't quite thin enough.

I have read no reports of the ultra HC in the wild yet.  I am anxious to see one and get within "licking" distance of it.

The pics certainly look just like the Para high capacity standard frames right down to the vertical serrations on the front strap.

OK.  So a 1911 chambered in 10mm will probably be a great choice for you.  Love 1911s.

I haven't seen you discuss the G29 but you said you don't want a plastic 10mm so that one is completely out too?  Or would you be on the fence about that one?
