Hello all and sorry if this has been covered before but I just got my RIA 10mm and was wondering if any one offered a aftermarket barrel, not that it needs one but was wondering if any one has one out for them and any other upgrades you recommend for them. This my second 10 my other is my g20 but I really like the 1911 platform

The only reason I could see replacing the barrel is if you wanted to shoot .40 out of it otherwise the cost is too high for little, if any gain. Heavier mainspring and a flat bottom firing pin stop will help the longevity of your 10mm 1911. If you don't like plastic on your 1911 your msh is.

Its a 1911 with a ramped barrel.  Plenty of pics of the three ramp cuts.  Compare and determine which it is.  Or post some pics here and we can tell you.

RIA is NOT a standard ramped barrel cut. However RIA offers barrels very in-expensively themselves. Like approx. $50. Yes someone of our members converted to 40. I wold suggest getting another reverse plug and spring setup for your 40 ammo however.

Now I really wanna see a pic of the barrel.

To be honest, this really makes no sense to me.  There are three well proven, un-encumbered ramp designs on the market.  RIA previously has used the Clark/Para cut, and then went to the Wilson/Nowlin cut as it was easier and cheaper to mfg.  I wanna see a pic of their new design to understand why they would have ditched the Wilson/Nowlin for something non-standard.

Unless they changed recently. Mine is an oddball. It also is a bull barrel so no bushing. This is what I mean when I say RIA is mainly the only source of this.

This is a quote from another forum discussing ria 10mm 1911.            Originally Posted by mamitchell19

Yes they are ramped. Cut is the Clark/para style.
Get a 40s&w barrel with a bushing from storm lake. Then you can run it in uspsa comps or idpa.

Quoting Mity2's post in 1911 forum:

RIA 10mm uses bull barrel.
RIA 10mm uses Clark/Para/Lissner ramp(not more conventional Clark/Para or Wilson/Nowlin - See pic at the bottom)
The earlier RIA 10mm came with slide that had a barrel bushing cut. Current productions don't(my current one - July 2013 made - don't have them. My first one - Jan 2013 did have it)

So above 3 creates an issue when you convert 10mm to .40SW, because not many company that I know makes 1911 barrel in .40SW that is bull barrel(STI I think), let alone with CPL ramp.
So why not use more common bushing barrel(or standard profile barrel) in .40SW with Clark/Para ramp, since you can install Clark/Para ramp in Clark/Para/Lissner cut frame, you ask?
Because there is no cut in slide for bushing(any more anyway)

So basically, its not easy conversion. It certainly can be done, but most of us don't have tool to machine bushing cut inside of slide.
And since no one is making replacement bull barrel in government length with Clark/Para/Lissner ramp, that's out too.

So it is FAR CHEAPER to just purchase the .40 conversion parts from Rock Island than a standard barrel.

Thanks guys I don't think it will need a barrel just wanted to see what was out there. And I have no plans on shooting an 40s In it.first impression is barrel is fouling up a little and love the gun though I may need to get a spare

Schuman makes a govt bull with a Clark park lisnner cut.

225 and this is a great barrel.  My commander length slugs at .3990

edit - changed the link to the .400 barrel from the .355.  Although, that .355 would be a great barrel to make a 357 sig or 9X25 in a RIA.
