9mm is faster and flatter than a 10mm.

Yeah...Not sure I can agree with this statement.

124/135 grain....9mm velocity is 1250 fps, 10mm velocity is 1600 fps.
147/155 grain....9mm velocity is 1175 fps, 10mm velocity is 1500 fps.

I could go on. But....

I think even with the most "standard" bullet weight for each of the two calibers (180gr for the 10mm, and 124gr(?) for the 9mm), the 10mm is slightly faster.

I have done a fair amount of long distance shooting with a pistol and the revolver,,,, the 10 is a excellent round and no doubt can shoot further than most think that it can.... but with only 4.5 in of barrel length, I would be more concerned with the realistic accuracy...
the weapons that I have used for distance have been at least 6'' barreled... all the way up to 10 in.... all that said,,, it seems to me that accuracy should be the most important issue...
Like the Indian said,,, ''any gun good , you shoot'em good''

sqlbullet

Yes.

But...Accuracy is a function of sight radius, not barrel length*.  Generally on a handgun the two are linked, but if a person were to ante up for a scope or other type of single plane sight, should be good to go with a quality barrel.

*Stiff barrels are more accurate than barrels that whip a good bit, and shorter barrels tend to be stiffer.  But that really isn't a factor in handgun barrels for pistol calibers.

Awww, you mean I wasted my money on this Dan Wesson .357 mag barrel?

Well maybe not, I CAN mount a scope on it!
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

sqlbullet

You did if you wanted more inherent accuracy :P

That barrel will give you a great sight radius, which makes it a ton easier to realize accuracy of the gun, and a bunch more velocity.

I also have a QD scope I can strap on it. Also goes with my 8 inch barrel for it.
