I have a chance to buy a very little used 1006. What kind of price would be in the ballpark. $1000 seems a bit high. That is the asking price.

I'm curious to know myself. I purchased mine NIB about 1 1/2 years ago for $750. Get a Tanfoglio  ;D

One thing to consider with the S&W is parts. If something breaks you might not be able to get it since most (maybe all) are being phased out.

That's a little high. I'd sale you a fixed sighted version in nice shape for $750 (no box) Like IC said, parts may become a problem but these guns can still run with the most commonly broken pieces, it just makes strange noises :). Hopefully someone will step up and fill the niche as far as parts.

I found a S&W 1006 finally and gave $600 for it but after the ffl fees and shipping it came to $650. It came with 1 mag with the yellow follower however I since have purchased 4 more mags that have the white followers. I have around 100 rounds thru it now and hope to get out and run more though it as well as chrno the Hornady 155 XTP factory round that they advertise at 1265 fps. Some have said that they are getting close to 1300 or more from this round.
