I'm really interested in 1911 training. Who or where would you guys recommend?  I live in So Cal. I've worked aerospace for the last 18 years and feel like a change and would like to start up a shop out of my house. Any advice would be great.

There is a school in Arizona in/near Phoenix.  I think there may also be a school in Nebraska.

If you don't want to make that kind of commitment, then you could look into some of the weekend type trainings that Cylinder and Slide puts on.  I am considering the barrel fitting one.  That and hammer/sear are areas that I really still don't have practical experience and would appreciate a set of eyes that can coach me..

Also, a copy of Jerry Kunhausen's 1911 manual is a great addition.  In reality, you can probably teach yourself a ton with that manual, a cheap 1911 (Rock Island, ATI, etc) a couple of files and taking your time.

Thanks for the info!!!  I think you're right, the books will be invaluable. Then get my buddy to let me do a trigger job on his Colt. Lol
