OK - I know little and barely now the terms (lumens vs. candlelights, etc.).  What do I need to know when selecting one and what are the key terms and numbers (light how many lumens will temporarily blind someone, how much "throw" is really needed, what good brands, etc.

Voidhawk http://voidhawkflashlights.com/ has a 2-for-1 sale and it looks good, made in USA, etc.  So does Zebra lights but they are more expensive.

I would love to put one of their claimed 1000 lumen lights against one of my streamlights that is actually less expensive and put out what they claim. . Stay away from these fly by night light companies follks, they do not last. If a streamlight dies on you they fix it or replace it.

Every single one of these off brand lights ive seen claiming high lumen out put really only does maybe half what it is claimed to.

I use a Surefire E2D Defender daily. It puts out 200 lumens from a package small enough to hold in your mouth when using both hands. Max output last well over an hour. I cracked the lens on it, sent it back, and got it back fixed in a week, no charge. Surefires are pricey but I got tired of the dull beams of common flashlight. 200 lumens is plenty to blind someone in darkness.

Sure fires x300 ultra has 500lum and is very nice
