Can normal 9mm be fired out of 9x25 Dillon barrel?

Forgive me for the dumb question, but, could normal 9mm rounds be fired out of a Glock 20 with a 9x25 Dillon barrel fitted?  Was wondering if this was possible to allow people to shoot cheap 9mm out if their Glock 10's...

Big bag of nope.

This would be like shooting 30 carbine in a 308 Winchester.

The 9X25 is a bottleneck cartridge.  Putting 9X19 in the chamber would most likely not fire, and if they did it would result in a case blowout, and possibly a bore obstruction.

chucky2

Doh...literally after I posted this I realized why... :(  talk about not engaging brain before posting!

Is it possible if someone like KKM made a conversion barrel for normal 9mm it would work then?  Looking at 9mm prices they're really attractive on pricing to shoot!

The issue is breechface and extraction.  Been a while since a researched specs, but I seem to recall that the 9mm, 40 S&W and 10mm all share a common extractor groove depth.  The head is obviously larger in diameter for the 40 and 10, but since the diameter diff isn't huge, and the extractor groove depth is the same....Lemme check....

Edit...

So the extractor groove diameter is the same, or close enough not to matter.  That seems to indicate to me that what you suggest should be possible.  In fact they make conversion barrels for Glock 22 to 9mm.  But not for 10mm.

However, given the price of a barrel, and the availability of cheap, good 9mm pistols, I would probably just look a good used 9mm.  You will see police surplus Glocks from time to time for $299.

chucky2

Yeah, probably would cost more than half of what a used 9mm would go for.  Would the 10mm mags even work with 9mm in them you think?

sqlbullet

Not reliably.  Or maybe even at all.  That is probably why they have barrels for the G22/23 and not the G20.  G17/19 mags fit fine in the 22/23.

Lone Wolf Dist. was selling a 9mm conversion barrel for the G-20 and it was said that it worked fairly well and the 9mm ammo actually fed from the 10mm magazines.  They even have one for 38Super as well...

Very cool  I would love to hear someone report how reliably the 9mm feeds.

Damn, 125 plus shipping, that's even less than I thought!  That shouldn't take too long on the ammo cost differential to break even...hmmm...happy birthday to me?

Was in Indy at my buds this weekend, he had 9mm ammo.  Fed about 10 rounds of it into my Gen4 G20 mag, fed and hand ejected (EDIT:  by hand ejected I mean, just stripping rounds off the mag by hand, not in the gun and hand cycling it) fine.  The crazy thing is I have a Advantage Arms .22LR conversion kit, but, they say to shoot CCI Mini-Mag out of it.  That has went from a practice and money saving purchase to a Impossible to find cheap CCI Mini-Mag adventure.  So now I'm actually thinking of getting that 9mm conversion barrel and the 11# spring.  However, I wonder if there exists a 11# spring for a Gen4...

With a standard recoil rod conversion kit you can get down to 10#.

Even before the great 22 shortage I was finding it just as cheap to cast and reload 10mm as buy new 22.  Now, not even the same ball park.

It might fire and come out of the barrel, but accuracy and reliability would be almost non-existent.

I (mistakenly) fired a 40S&W out of my 45ACP Glock 21. It went bang, and the bullet hit the target sideways about 1.5 ft low and 1 ft to the right of where I was aiming.

Not sure if you read the entire thread, but at this point we have deviated to using a 9mm conversion barrel from Lone Wolf in a Glock 20.

I would LOVE to get into reloading, but alas, I literally have no time nor any space for it.  I live with the parents, and our house just has no additional room for a reloading setup.  Even if it did, I have no time for it...  :'(
