At this time the only thing I question in your assessment is that grips. Every other delta I have seen has a pebble grain grip, this is distinctly checkered. it could be a production change, I don't know. The beavertail in the video below seems to show the same one that my pistol had. It looks like the E suffix might just be an ad-on to the serial number for unknown reasons.

This guy is doing some videos apparently from the Colt Archives and has some interesting stuff to share. Here is the video on the DEGC which doesn't say much but some of the other ones from him about the Delta Elite are interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHkqfB9OmHI

Are they scratches? Or is it marks from the cosmoline when the gun is removed from the plastic bags the Colts come wrapped in?  :-\

The Extended Beavertail in the Video is not stock to the DGC
And Colt shipped the DGCs with either a Rap-around Grip as on the Delta Elites or a set of Rubber Slabs

I was wondering the same thing
Some very odd shaped marks there
Otherwise, this is a very nice, bone stock piece
If I had the 2K (which may be a bit high), I'd love to add this to my Stable

This looks to be the same as the beavertail in the gun pictured above. Any knowledge on the change from a pebble grain wrap around grip to the checkered pattern version?

Yes, I would hate to see a nice Gold Cup like this ruined with scratch marks. Hopefully it's just the cosmoline.

I think that Colt did ship DEGC with the Duckbill grip safety.  I own two of them and neither gun has been touched

When it comes to the D  "E"  GC, you may be right Beemer
BUT, when it comes to a STOCK Delta Gold Cup, it come like this:

With a Flat / Squared Grip Safety and Spur Hammer, not with an Extended Beavertail Safety or a Skeletonized Hammer
They may be stock items on the "E" model DGC, which (I must admit) I have little to no experiance with

I am wrong on two points.  I misread you post and I thought you were talking about all Delta Gold Cups.  I just purchased one that ia enhansed and it has the duck bill grip safety.  I have one in the safe and have owned it for ten or more years, so I dug it out and it too is an enhanced model which I did not remember.  My mistake.

No worries Beemer
I LOVE the Delta, be it an Elite, Combat Elite, a Gold Cup, Enhanced or not
