I have a 21sf with ambi mag release and regular rail that works well and I like the ambi release.

I have a 20 slide that I got to use with it and need to make a 10mm mag to work with the ambi release.   Needs that center slot in the upper front of the mag.

Can I just cut a open hole thru the front plastic to match the location on my 21sf mags?  My 21sf mags have metal under the plastic where that slot is, would a liner behind the hole be necessary?

Anyone tried this before?

Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom and welcome to the forum.  The factory magazines are metal lined.  The matching up of the cut like that of the 45 magazines might would allow the use of the modified 10mm mags.  BTW have you tried the 10mm magazines in the frame to see if they work with them as they are?  Will they work but not as an ambi release/  By that I mean will the seat and release with the normal magazine release on the left as it is pushed to the right?  :-\

Thanks for the welcome.  Just checked the one G20 mag I have and it has metal lining on the sides and back, none on the front where the center cut would be.  It fits in the mag well but release does not catch as my 21sf frame has that gen 3 center hold ambi that was only offered on that model.

All of the mags are metal lined, the older ones just don't all have that window cut out in the front. You could buy new G20 mags (they will have that cutout), or cut out your own.

Honestly, the best option though is to call Glock and ask them to replace your ambi frame with a standard 20/21 SF frame. That mag release will fail sooner or later; Glock has a recall on them and will replace them for free. (At least they did, don't know if that's still active?) I had to have mine replaced after it failed a couple years ago.

Just spoke with Glock tech support and told me the newer mags will not have the cutout.  Frame replacement is an option if it ever fails however mine is working well.  So I think the best option is to offer the g20 complete slide and mag for sale.
