PBR has worked on getting the FedEx rectified

And Anthony said they received some brass. If you want some go to the site and hit the notifications for the ones you want.

Intercooler

The brass shipment was low only 40 boxes of ammo. He isn't putting it out on the site if I am reading what he sent me in a message. I'm trying to get the details now how our group can snap them up.

It looks like the decreased shipping is to commercial addresses only.

Intercooler

Did you read the example? Another option would be to ship it to one of those mailbag hold places. Their rate has changed too from what I am reading. Under 100 will be no charge insured. Let me get the details he sent.

PBR:

On the insurance, the quote does take into account actual value to return the right amount. Under $100, no insurance cost, over $500 no signature cost (since direct is then free). It does all the right permutations to minimize cost, including box packing. I wish we had better breaks but until our volume is high enough, we deal with what we have.

Shipping Cost Example
Some customers have asked why shipping a few boxes of ammunition is so expensive and we'd like to show just how much it costs to ship a package. Below is the cost straight from the FedEx rate calculator to ship a 6lb package worth 50 from us to an address in our own zip code.

FedEx Home Delivery - Base rate   6.95
Additional charges
+ Indirect signature required   $2.25
+ Fuel surcharge    $0.88
+ Residential surcharge    $2.80
+ DAS Residential $2.75

Total cost $15.63 to ship what amount to 2 boxes of 9mm ammunition. The fees are what drives up the cost of the shipping small packages. They cost more than the actual base shipping rate.

Look what happens for a full case of 9mm (10 boxes, 28lbs, worth $200)

FedEx Home Delivery - Base rate   $11.34
Additional charges (+)
+ Indirect signature required   $2.25
+ Fuel surcharge    $1.18
+ Declared Value    $2.55
+ Residential surcharge    $2.80
+ DAS Residential $2.75

Total cost $22.87 to ship 5 times as much ammunition that weighs 22lbs more and insurance for only $7 more!

When shipping ammunition it pays to maximize the amount you purchase to minimize the percentage of the cost that represents fixed fees. We can fit up to 70lbs or 20 boxes of ammunition in a single shipper to maximize the bang for your shipping buck.

Maybe that's what he meant by commercial address?

Intercooler

I know having a FedEx account the Home Delivery for sure adds to the cost. Oddly though I have used a home address and just went regular Ground with some packages and they never got sent back or undelivered.

Option one is have it shipped to your business if possible. Perhaps you know a business that would accept your package or use a mailbag place.
Option two is just try your address and see, or have it shipped to a FedEx hold center.

The way I always view ordering ammo on-line is do it in bulk. Really pointless to order two boxes of ammo with shipping.

Info from PBR on the reduced pricing and options:

We have updated our shipping module to allow users with a commercial address to chose FedEx Ground for their delivery option. Prior to this we could only quote one address type or the other. Now if FedEx recognizes your address as commercial, FedEx Ground will appear in your shipping options instead of Home Delivery.

Preview quotes before the shopping cart will still only display Home Delivery quotes because that pane only accepts zip codes. Note that if your address cannot be classified by FedEx, the service defaults to residential delivery. If you feel that is an error, check your address classification with FedEx to determine why their system does not recognize your address properly.

In addition, we have secured a new pricing structure with FedEx based on our shipment volume and most users will see a decrease of a few dollars in the cost to ship ammunition. However, that discount only applies to the base rate and the fees remain unchanged. For small orders, the fees can still be more than the actual transportation cost of the package.

I wonder if it will count as "commercial" shipping to my LE agency?

Intercooler

BTW... I'm in the shipping business in more ways than one! I see both UPS and FedEx a couple of times everyday making delivery and taking shipments. I also have personal accounts with both and have experience on the personal level with packages leaving and entering my home. Let's put it this way in saying UPS is closing my account soon due to no activity and I'm fine with it!  ;D I find the service, prices, website and locations better with FedEx. Just my .002 though.

They have .45GAP in stock. Select those or any other ammo and simulate the cart using your LE address. I just tried my home and it gave Home Delivery.

Intercooler

Home was $23 and I tried my work address and it changed over to Ground automatically and $17. That's a nice $6 savings if you can use Ground to a business/hold address.

That may be the best option available.  I've done it, but it's been years.  If you have permission to ship to the "station" (from whoever there who may be able to grant the authorization), then it becomes a government delivery, and can bypass some fees, as well.  Have it shipped to the dept/station name and address, C/O you, and it's a government shipment.

Also, in case you didn't know, all your firearm and shooting expenses, including transportation and other incidental costs (such as ammunition shipping), are tax deductible.

Many stores will discount for military and LEO's.  Don't forget to ask if you're able.  Adding that to "government" shipping can take the S/H/Hazmat sting out of an order.
