First I can not verify this info to be true...but this is what was in my e-mail this morning!  :o
So I am passing it on for all of you to read.  Maybe more info will be forth coming or come to light.

QuotePRETTY SCARY!!!

9mm Ammunition
You may not know this but George Soros owns most of the ammunition manufacturing companies and many arms manufacturers as well. He's selling ONLY to the government right now, per WH & DHS orders. My son works for ATK, who owns just about all the rest of the ammunition companies that Soros doesn't own. He tells me that ATK has been ordered by the federal government to curtail sales of ammunition, primers and powder to the retail market. What you see currently on the shelves is old stock and what's left in the warehouses since the CT shootings and new stock will NOT be appearing anytime soon. ATK and Soros' companies have more than enough government contracts to keep them going for years to come.

Like, Soros' companies, ATK is a huge defense contractor and they've been told to sell ONLY to the DOD, TSA, FBI, DHS and local/federal law enforcement agencies. This is VERY scary and VERY ominous for what's coming down the pike in the future.

My son has seen the proposed pricing schedule for Federal, CCI, Hornady, Remington, Winchester and several other mmunition manufacturer's lines of ammunition, components, reloading equipment (ATK owns Outers, RCBS, Hoppe and a host of others) and he's flabbergasted! As an example, when the sales of .22 LR bulk ammo resumes, the pricing will be over $50.00 for a 535-round Value Pak! That's nearly a dime-a-shot!! They're also going to raise the prices by 300 - 400% on dies, presses, powder measures and the like.

He's in management there at ATK in Salt Lake City and they're NOT happy with it at all! They firmly believe this will basically shut-down the civilian market while leaving the government as the only purchaser of their products. He saw the government pricing for the centerfire ammunition they've been stockpiling and their prices have actually dropped from a year ago so the feds are buying this stuff REAL cheap while we can't even get our hands on it at all!

Something I've always said since Obummer came onto the scene in 2008 is that, even if they can't actually ban the weapons themselves, the government will make it nearly impossible for us civilians to feed them with ammo, reloading components and the like. The WH doesn't HAVE to actually ban the guns, as Biden said in one of his many faux pas, foot-in-the-mouth, Freudian slip speeches he's famous for making.

All we have to do is to make it too expensive to use them and the public will eventually give them back to us if we offer an attractive price for these weapons". What's an "attractive price" - a $10.00 Walmart gift card for a $3,000.00 custom hunting rifle? Those were his EXACT words in one of the speeches he gave to the freshman congressmen last week! Remember, Biden was one of the architects of the Clinton gun ban of years ago. I think he's as dangerous to the Second Amendment as Obozo is, maybe more so, because he's so stupid and doesn't know the muzzle of a gun from the butt..."

Feel free to pass this on so gun owners will be aware of what we're up against. I doubt the NRA can do anything about it, IMHO. La Pierre can get on all the talk shows he's invited to and cry the blues about the assault weapons laws that are forthcoming from the WH but the real crux of the matter will be whether or not we'll ever be able to purchase ammunition (at all) or, if we can, what we'll be paying for it.

As an aside, here, I deal a LOT with Midsouth Shooters Supply for my reloading components. Two weeks ago I ordered 500 cases each of .45 Casull, .44 Magnum, .357 Magnum and 9mm Parabellum. I was told everything I had ordered was out-of-stock and no in-stock delivery date was being forecast.

They wouldn't even accept a backorder for this stuff! Think the government isn't manipulating it? Think again, my friend..

I hate to be the barer of this news and I really don't want it to be completely true! ???

Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

It's not true at all. This was one of the rumors going around the internet that the powder companies say is causing the ammo shortage.

Hodgdon powder company practically begged me in an email to help stop the spread of these kind of rumors because they are almost a year behind in production.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/03/03/its-george-soros-fault-we-have-so-little-ammo-not/

http://www.factcheck.org/2011/10/george-soros-gun-grab/

http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/freedom.asp

This is the email I got from Hodgdon:

Do you really think that we, and the rest of the industry are sitting on our butts doing nothing while this situation is at hand.  Most companies producing consumables  in this industry, including us, have been at maximum production for months.  As long as this emotional panic continues in the buying public, the shortages will last.  When they quit going nuts over nothing, the market will stabilize and return to normal.  Take a look at the whats going on in Washington, every one of the proposed gun control bills is dead or dying with no hope of passage.  Time for folks to quit buying 36 pounds of powder when they need 8.

This situation is exactly like 1994 and 2009.  Shooters responded emotionally to some threat that did not exist.  Some persons who wanted to appear "in the know" or "connected" used the internet forums to repeat these "sky is falling" rumors over and over until people believed it  Here we go again.

So, we are maxed out on production.  We sell powder to the same distributors we have had for years.  Our prices have not gone up since November at the NASGW show.  There is no great conspiracy with the government.  They buy less than 2% of the product we sell in a year.

Where is the powder going?  Well, we sell to our distributors and they sell it on from there.  We do not know their customers so we do not know where the powder is except hundreds of shooters call us every day and most have bought powder but now want to stock up on more.  You can also look on web sites like GunBroker and see powder selling for outrageous prices and people are bidding on it.  Don't buy at high prices and these guys scalping the powder will drop the prices just like they did the last 2 times this happened.

And you, you have the power to kill off the rumors and the people passing along the rumors.  Do it and tell them why.  They will quit doing it and soon the group will get it.

"Take a look at the whats going on in Washington, every one of the proposed gun control bills is dead or dying with no hope of passage."

The REAL threat is from the State and Local level politicians where the anti-everything legislative actions are very alive. That spokesman for Hodgdon that made that statement needs to pull their head out of their behind and look at the legislation being passed and signed into law in CA, CO & NY, and what's being proposed in other  States such as VA, which has historically been gun friendly.

Here in CA there are 40+ bills introduced and working through the legislative process. Other States are sitting on the side lines waiting to see what sticks, and then you can be sure that what was done here will begin to make it's way to other states like a fungus... and CO is a prime example.

I'm sorry, but I really get PO'ed seeing people assume the threat is over just because the Fed's did not do anything... they don't have too, they can sit back on their behinds, and let the States take the lead.

I agree Gunhacker and i been saying it to folks i know and co workers that the States are making the moves without  DC.However, the states making the moves are in line with DC's views. No way im drinking the kool aid from here on in,now, near future and long term.

Well I like others can sit back an take things with a grain of salt, so I fired off a letter direct to the ATK sporting goods group to get some straight answers on this matter.

I have come to a better appreciation for the Hodgdon product lines over the years and do use their products often!  If only the store shelves can get back to somewhat normal supply, I feel much better!  However, I have gathered stuff to meet my needs and sustain myself in the effort to get over and past this lack of supplies.   8)

My go to rifle powder was always Hodgdon H4895. But for pistol I use Unique because it is good for so many different calibers, like H4895 is good for everything from .223 to 8X56R in rifle. I am currently trying 2400 for my 10mm, though.
Some people think I'm paranoid because I have so many guns. With all my guns, what do I have to be paranoid about?

The_Shadow

Gandog, skip the 2400, it is a little bulky and slow for best performance...Blue Dot is much better for the 10mm as well as many other pistol cartridges.
But IMR800X, LongShot, Power Pistol all rank up there also.  Heck using fast powders like Bullseye, 231 or HP-38 can provide more shots using less powder in these trying times.

Here lately though finding any powders & primers at all has been a challenge.

This is from Hornadys website.  They state they have not been forced to stop or slow production or make ammo only for the Gov't.  I got enough to get me through this panic and let supplies return to shelves.  My local retail said that things are becoming more and more available. Although he said that people continue to flood in and buy what they can.

We only do a disservice to ourselves by spreading the rumors on Facebook and gun forums. It causes people to keep buying and buying until there is none left for the rest of us. I have a neighbor who has over 40 pounds of No. 9 powder in his garage. And he wouldn't even sell 1 pound to me a few weeks ago. I offered him $50 for 1 pound and he flat out said NO WAY. You know what his reason was? He read on the internet that the government was going to ban gun powder ownership by 2014. Even after showing him there was no truth to it, he refused to believe me saying he got an email from a "reliable source." I honestly think it's some liberal idiots sit around and write up these chain emails and send them out just to get us in a panic.

Now, I don't hardly trust the government in this day and age, but it has reached tinfoil hat proportions with the internet conspiracies.

EdMc

I was in the local Bass Pro yesterday and bought a couple of hundred rounds of Win White Box 45 APC ball ammo. They also had two types of 223 ammo....and several types of powders. Most of it sells quickly and isn't in great numbers, but they are getting some stock in every few days. They also had 243, 270 and 30/06 in stock. Sometimes some brass in various calibers.

I think people are still buying as much as they can of certain calibers.....when it does come in it sells so quickly most never notice. Some people I know call several times a day to see what has come in.....until that stops the current 'run' will continue.

REDLINE

I don't buy into the govmit (at any level) being directly behind any component or ammo shortage, period.  What's going on boils down to panic buying because we have a lying antiAmerican communist liberal racist born in Kenya community organizer involved in at least 3 current conspiracies, with Chicago thug friends, in the White House (how that happened for a second term is beyond me, but it supposedly legally did) throwing around anti shooting sports talk trying to go against the 2nd Ammendment that makes Bill Clinton appear more conservative than Rush Limbaugh.  Nothing more.

Anyway, I finally got my thousand pieces of brass from Midway via UPS today.  Another 6 months of patients waiting for boolit fodder to arrive on the shelves of my favorite retailer and I should be able to get back into the full swing of handloading ammo. ;D
Gun Control?  Oh yes, the theory that becoming a victim is somehow morally superior to defending yourself & your family.  Makes perfect sense.

pacapcop

I think a lot of folks will take this ammo crises the same way folks from The Great Depression will.Never again will I not be prepared/stocked up.I'm one of them.

sqlbullet

Yeah...The problem is the people that are buying anything they can get their hands on.

You build a big back stock via a series of purchases at opportune times over several years, not panic buying at outrageous prices now.  I have 5-6K primers, 50-60 lbs of powder, and a couple thousand brass in 30-06, 10mm and 223.  I also have some 308 brass (couple hundred) and about 2K rounds of steel 7.62X54R.

I buy when I see a good deal.  Which means lately, no buying.

Anyone who asks me where to get stuff lately...Well, I use a four dimension system to describe where.  Planet earth, at a point in the future.  don't bother right now.  If they are really in a bind, I loan them some ammo to be repaid when they can.  I had a neighbor that was getting his NRA rifle instructor cert so we can do sanctioned shooting with our troop.  He needed 22lr for the practical, and I loaned him 100 rounds.

Keep calm and carry on.  Good motto for right now.
