Question for the professionals on this forum. I am running 3 glocks. A 20,20SF and 29. All with standard recoil spring. Here is my question. My carry ammo is 155GR Buffalo Bore in all 3. But I also shoot everyhing from Priv which is a low as it gets to the Buffalo Bore 220 HC. Also some Nugent 180gr,Hornady CD 165 gr. Now the 64 dollar question. I shot on the average the same in all of the guns. Which spring would be best for me. I think stock is 17lbs. Most of my ammo is full power and up yet i do shoot some Priv which is way low power. So what spring would be best for my guns. I was think maybe a 22lb but I am guessing. Someone who knows I need a little more expertise here than I have. I can shoot with the best of them but I am no gunsmith or reloader. I am just a good shooter.Always have been. Just the one thing i can do pretty good. The rest well that is why I am asking. All answers will be appreciated. If you need more info just ask. Also what spring mfg and guide rod type do you recommend. These guns are all stock just as they came from the factory so I know I need to up the spring power before I shoot much or I will beat them to death. Thanks for the help.

I have a gen3 20 and use a 22# spring for all loads. The lightest ones fall about 2 feet away and the heavy reloads or Underwood ammo is thrown about 15 feet away. All ammo cycles fine. I use an ISMI captured rod and spring. That said for tinkering I'd probably recommend going with a set of springs and non-captured rod by Wolf to see what feels best to you.

Yondering

First thing to be aware of - ratings for different spring brands are not the same! ISMI's spring ratings are not the actual spring force. Wolff springs may be closer to their advertised numbers, but I have not measured them.

My experience - a 22 or 24# ISMI spring works for all 10mm loads in my Glocks. (Longslide with a brake, and stock 10mm barrel in a 21 slide). Both of these handle full power loads without ejecting the brass into orbit, but still cycle mild 40 S&W loads too. These 22-24 lb springs are not anywhere close to actually pushing 22-24 lbs, but they do exert a little more force holding the slide in battery, which is my main reason for using them.

I will say that the G-29 I running the Wolff 21 lb spring set with their non captive two piece recoil rod, this arrangement has been my mainstay sine 2008.  The reason I original change springs was the factory spring started to slip past the nub on the front of the guide rod.  This 21 lb set has worked from mild to wild 10mm, and using conversion barrels for 9x25Dillon, 40S&W & 357Sig cartridges.  I feel this non-captive setup applies more pre-loading for better lockup, that can be felt when racking the slide back. ;D

Many have had issues with recoil systems in the G-20's so you will need to investigate and understand what is working for others... ???

What he said ^^^. I love the wolf non captive set. You can swap springs out in seconds but I haven't had too. 21 or 22 lbs. should work with about anything.

I recently purchased an ISMI 22lb spring for my G20 with a 6" KKM.  Got to shoot this set up for the first time this past weekend and it performed flawlessly.  I shot fairly weak Remington UMC's and Underwood's.  Every shot fed, fired and ejected without a hiccup.

Thanks guys. I got some ordering to do. I mainly shoot heavy medium to nuclear loads so I am going to put 22's in. I Sometimes shoot a low power box of ammo but not that ofter and as long as it will eject the empty is all I care about there. I am more worried about the battering the gun takes on the full power and nuclear loads. And I never ever shoot a reload. Mostly Underwood,Buffalo Bores, Uncle Ted and some Hornady. And yes so I can clean my gun a box of Prvi. If I had my choice I would stay with the 1st 3.Uncle Teds ammo looks like a Gold Dot to me but it may be something cheaper. It says Unicor but you look that up on Speers sight and it says Unicor/Gold Dot or it did awhile back.
