John August Taffin (May 2, 1939 – March 10, 2025) was an American author from Boise, Idaho who wrote several columns for gun magazines including Guns, Gun Digest, Sixgunner, Shoot!, and American Handgunner.

A while back American Handgunner magazine had their 45th anniversary. As part of the celebration they took a Cimarron Frontier 45 1873 Colt 4.75" which John Taffin got as a donation back in January 19th 2021.
Mr. Taffin did some testing using the pistol using ammo from Black Hills and CCI Trail Blaser.

American Handgunner did a Giveaway Sep/Oct 2021 after they had this little revolver Engraved and Gold Inlay by Baron Technology

I was selected the giveaway winner of this beautiful 45th anniversary pistol...So here is my tribute to remember Mr. Taffin.

That is a very cool gun and great piece of history for you.

John Taffin and Mike Venturino are (were) two of my favorite gun writers.  I have been reading their articles for pretty much as far back I can remember reading anything gun related.

Mr. Taffin will be missed, but is wisdom lives on in the many great words he penned.
