Newbie to reloading 10mm...any pressure signs?

The_Shadow

flatapple, welcome to the forum!  The primers look good seeing some firing pin wipe for extraction starting as the barrel tilts downward.
Tell me more about the gun you're testing with, is it stock? also powder and load you are testing here...  Might shed more in site as to the cases.  Am seeing some nicks on the rims also.

Don't look bad from this angel.   Post up a side view shot.  Shiny ring around the base?  Bulge at the base?  What pistol?  Do you have a chronograph?

I'm using a S&W Model 1006 with a 22lb. recoil spring.  There are no shiny ring, no bulge and both loads were max from the Speer #14 and Hornady #9.  My chronograph recorded from the Speer load average 1317 and the Hornady load average 1388...with a 180gr.

Impressive performance for a 180 grain bullet.  What is your load data?  I'm getting high pressure signs for a 155 Winchester bullet with 12 grains on VV 3n38.  Wanted to get up to 1400 fps.  Got there but not again with the VV3N38.  What powder are you using?

Here are five cases.  The two on the left are normal no high pressure signs.  The three on the right show high pressure indications.  Look just above the extractor grove and notice the ring there.  My primers look almost as good as yours but that's not the only place to look.  Actually my primers from the high pressure loads have more firing pin swipe.   The far right one if you look closely shows a shiny ring above the extractor grove.  I should have stopped there and backed off a few tenths of a grain of powder, but....   Luckily I didn't blow any thing up or lose any body parts.

Trying to see what powder you tested here...You are among friends here.
I suppose you were using Blue Dot from Speer #14
Maybe the same from Hornady #9 or either AA#9

The_Shadow...you are correct in the powders used, both with the max load!  Pretty cool that the Speer manual used a S&W model 1006 as their test handgun, with me getting pretty close to the same results!

Speer #14
11.0gr. Blue Dot (max)
CCI 300
180gr. Hornady XTP

Hornady #9
14.9gr. ACC#9 (max)
CCI 300
180gr. Hornady XTP

Have tested the same load with blue dot in my G20/3 with 20lb spring and my Sig 220/10 stock.

The G20 to me was just on the edge of my feelings of safe,... I lowered it down to 10.8 as my max in the G20.
As to the Sig 220/10 there was no issues at all and I felt it was safe in the Sig.

Totally agree, my P220 - 10 runs effortlessly with all of the souped up factory loads I?ve run
