My sixteen year old daughter likes to come along on range trips.  She shoots all of the guns I own and gets very respectable results with all of them.  She is only 4' 11" and weighs less than 110 pounds.  We took the 20sf this week and she was looking forward to giving it a try.  We shot Underwood 155 gr Gold Dots at 1500fps.  She thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait for the next order to arrive from Underwood so we can make another trip to the range.  It looks like I am going to have to get her a G29 Gen 4 of her own when she is old enough for CCW!!!

Its always a good thing to educate the younger generation and acclimate them to firearms safety and the fun part of shooting them! 

Both the wife and the daughters that are old enough at my house love my 10's.  Prefer to shoot the 10's  to 22's. My then 8 year old second son was a little overwhelmed by the 10mm, but it was cold and raining that day which probably had as much to do with it as anything.

I can't wait to have children.

Indeed it does.  Especially last weekend.  At the cousins other grandparents house for as shindig.  Bunch of not my kids running around with a toy gun "shooting" people.  My six year old gets his turn.  He "shoots" cans, vases and pretend monsters, but not people. His trigger discipline needed a little work, but he was very aware of that muzzle.

P10, SB, that is great about the range time with your kids!  I remember mine.  It is special indeed.


SB, I agree about not letting kids "shoot" people.  I never let mine shoot people or pets with nerf guns or similar.

Some of the best times are spent with the kiddos and guns.  I took my 11 year old son out to the desert to shoot this week.  It always starts off with a hunt for brass and I'll usually stop when I see he gets bored with that.

Well he got bored and I agreed that we should go shoot.  Before we left he kinda joked we should switch seats (meaning he wanted to drive).  Much to his surprise I got out and walked around to the passenger side and handed him the keys.  He took the keys still not believing I was gonna let him drive my new truck.  Did I mention this was out in the desert?  He got to drive to our shooting spot with a grin from ear to ear.

This was the first time he showed interest in shooting handguns. I made some powder puff loads for him in .40 and .45, he decided he liked shooting the G30 over the 1911.  I'll change that for sure though.

I'm a firm believer in starting them young.......I can't childproof a gun, but I can gun-proof a child!  All my (4) kids were taught gun safety and muzzle awareness from an early age, but my youngest son is my gun-buddy, and has been since he was a toddler.  He started shooting when he was four, and was a natural from the start.  Makes Dad pretty proud.







He's 20 now, and has a few guns of his own.  We went shooting on Thanksgiving (family tradition) and he did okay for someone who has only shot twice in the past year.  Some days he thinks he's better than the old man, but he's gonna have to work a little harder on it.  That day will come, but I'm not working on my alibis yet.

So true!!!

My ten year old twins have "beretta-like" bb pistols.  They're great for training (and it's great for teaching muzzle control!).  It's also cool to see them connect with former-beverage-storage-reactive targets (empty soda cans).  We'll be moving up to .22s and then centerfire over the next few years.

Shooting with kids = great time as a parent!

There are two Delta Elite knock off BB pistols in my safe that I use for the same purpose, as well as taking out wasp nests in areas where I don't want chemicals or fire..  They work great for training both kids to shoot and stinging insects to relocate.
