I had a credit at my LGS a couple years ago for something like $180.00, but was told I had to purchase something to redeem the credit, and not just receive the cash. I have always wanted a nice knife, but could never justify spending that much money on a pocket knife. After having it for a while, I realized I would rarely cut anything out of fear I would dull or damage the blade, and didn?t think a hand sharper or local shop would put on an edge like the factory one. After looking into it a bit further, I found that Benchmade offers a LifeSharp Service for the life of the knife. All you have to do is pay  the shipping, and you can send it in as often as you like?problem solved, now I can actually use it for its intended purpose 😀

Lots of (us) gun guys went anti-Benchmade after their tint in Portland helping to destroy firearms.
I still love the 940. The OG in green is sweet. The titanium is pretty rad too.

Interesting, didn?t know anything about the Portland thing, still a dandy little knife though. Still not sure how the can get those kind of Prices

Hi Ken, I have 2 Benchmade knives. Both have been excellent in their edge retention and durability. I sharpen the pocket knife with a 250/1000 grit japanese waterstone, usually just using the 1000 grit side. The fixed blade hunting knife has handled 4 or 5 deer and is still scalpel sharp, never been sharpened.

I was a huge fan of Marble's knives when they were still made in Gladstone Mi. I probably have a dozen still nib. The one I carried hunting was retired by the Benchmade. I will say somewhat painfully that the Benchmade is actually a little better. Use yours and enjoy it. They cost more but they're worth it. Probably the best factory made knives in America.

Benchmade was one of the contractors the Portland PD had to carry out department policy on the destruction of guns once due process was exhausted.

Benchmade also is bit contributor to the NRA and has publicly stated on many occasions that they are very Pro-2A.

Benchmade also came under fire at the same time for political contributions they made to members of congress who didn't pass NRA muster.  However, for full context it is important to note that Benchmade was using it's clout to further the knife rights of citizens.

As Benchmade pointed out in an interview:

Quote
Gun owners are protected when traveling through states by the Firearm Owners Protection act; knife owners don?t enjoy that kind of protection. The Interstate Transport Act was a very important piece of legislation that Benchmade has been working to get passed for over five years, alongside the American Knife and Tool Institute.

This bill had co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle. The effort requires bi-partisan support and we need to ensure we are reaching across the aisle and bringing both parties to the table. I don?t think most people are aware of how serious the penalties can be for certain types of knives in certain states, though less now than in the past, and it is the knife companies that have to carry the torch, as these issues generally have very low visibility.

Speaking for myself, I think it is great the Benchmade took Portland PD budget legally set aside for an anti-gun process and used it to fund their companies ability to support gun and knife rights through political contributions.

I also am a fan of their products.  Have a couple of Benchmade knives.  My Adamas is an EDC knife and has never failed me.  It opens with one hand with authority and it's locking mechanism has never failed to full engage.  It has saved my bacon many times when I am on a ladder or other precarious position and need a knife.   My bugout lighweight is great for pajamas exercise clothes.

I have never used their sharpening service, but I am aware it exists.

Thanks guys. Mine is the Bugout model as well. I was sure I had lost it this past summer fishing, only to find it a few weeks ago clipped to my cargo pants pocket 😀, I don?t lose a lot of stuff, so was just hoping it would turn up

I'll add that the Axis lock is my favorite. I've had liner and frame locks fail and don't trust them.

I've got a limited run Benchmade 940 with G10 scales and a 20CV blade that was only available through Knifeworks in Louisiana.

The good: Fantastic daily whatever you need a pocketknife for type of knife... and you don't even notice it in your pocket until you need it. Holds a fantastic edge too.

The bad: It's not a knife you'd want to use if you're going to be doing something with a knife for an extended period of time... ie it will eventually be uncomfortable to hold. Also mine was dull as mud out of the box and it took me a while to put a decent edge on it. I could care less whether the maker will resharpen something, waiting two weeks for somebody else to do it means you don't have your blade.

The ugly: Most people will think it was a bit pricy for what you get. But if you think of it by comparing to other knives with the G10 / 20CV combination, it's actually not too expensive at all.

B-made also offers a military discount, but it's pretty lame compared to what it used to be. Gotta hem up those profit margins.

Lucky me, I lost mine for real! This thread puts me in the mood to replace it.

Kenk

I totally would have replaced mine had I not found it. Benchmade knives seem to be another one of those ?buy once cry once? kinda items

Kenk,

Your father didn't raise you right if you can't put an edge on a knife! Just sayin'.
Firearm resale value should be your kids' problem.

Kenk

I guess that?s because he passed when I was 9, plus I didn?t know if hand / tool sharpening would do justice to a high quality blade, possibly even wrecking it?..just sayin

I've had great luck with this system:

Pretty much fool proof.
