Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Bent Brass
March 10 2015 07:47:51 PM MDT
Quick question. With my former Glock 29, I would occasionally have a little ding on the brass mouth. I'm assuming it was hitting the slide on the way out. It usually happened with hot loads. What would cause this?

I'd like to be able to get 1200-1300fps out of the 180gr bullets. I guess if the 300BLK guys can use them, they should work in 10mm. I'd still like to have someone verify before I buy first.

EDIT: Looks like this guy used Bayou bullets up to around 1200fps. I'd bet they would hold up well even at 1300fps.

What kind of velocities can  you push these to? I hate having to find FMJ bullets, plus they are expensive.

Sounds good. I'm going to test out CFE with 180gr pills. I'd like to get 1150-1200fps for range ammo.

So they are doing away with the IMR labeling? Winchester next? Any difference in pricing with the new labeling?

Since IMR, Hodgdon, and Winchster are all the same company, I don't see a reason for them to keep all three around. It would be much easier and less confusing if everything was under one brand.

Did you get any tumbling?

If I could get 1150-1200fps with 180gr out of my Glock 20, I'd be happy.

Has anyone chrono'd this stuff in 10mm? I tested it in 9mm and 45ACP and got the velocities I wanted (comparable to factory range ammo).

I just picked up an 8lb jug of it from Graf's as I already shot through my 1lb I originally bought.

Not to mention the burden sum over regulations of the chemicals and facilities... :(

Might explain why most powder is produced in Europe. Far too many regulations in the US.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Where to order brass.

My order from Starline just shipped. I guess I placed it a few weeks ago. Apparently they had some QC issues, which explains the long wait for shipment.

Just keep monitoring their page. They'll eventually open backorders up.

Shadow, the data I used from a couple of Hodgdon sources listed the tested OAL at 1.250".

Attrapereves, I am limited on my powder choices with the powder shortage we're experiencing.  Looks like AC does better, velocity wise, with lighter bullets.  I'm going to try it with lighter bullets.

Definitely understand that! I'd stick with 165gr pills for Autocomp. You should be able to crank out some decent velocities. Actually, you could even work up a nice 1150-1200fps load with 180gr pills.

I've also got a pound of it. I don't think I'm going to use it for 10mm, but I am working up some 9mm and 45ACP loads.

Autocomp really isn't a great powder for 10mm. However, I've had decent luck with it in 9mm.

I try to stick to 1.250" +/- .003. I reweigh a test round about every 50rnd. I don't mind a .2gr deviation for slower powders like AA#9 and N105.

In my G20 I have pushed the 180 FP and HP by xtreme to 1300+ without tumbling (storm lake barrel at 6"). What distance are you seeing the tumbling?

Weird. I was testing at 5 and 10yd. I wonder if the Glock barrel has something to do with it? I got major tumbling with my 357sig reloads using plated bullets.

FMJ bullets aren't that much more, so I will stick with them until I can test more Xtreme.
