My dad hooked up a Streamlight Protac HL this Christmas. Things pretty amazing, has something like 650 lumens. For my G20 light I use a GTL 21. I'd post some pics but I've given up trying to get them on here. Files always too large.
HK USP 45 Tactical-Insight M6
G17-Streamlight TLR 1
Figured 3 Pistol lights probably was good and I left my other guns alone.
X2 on the protac HL  as far as light output it is the best i have ever owned and its a real white color light.   2 things would make it the perfect light.  adjustable beam and rechargeable batteries.    its way brighter than any of the chinese junk rated at 3 times as many lumens.

Never met a Glock I liked.  :P

I'm with you there GD
But the Glock Lower works well with the MechTech and I do like having the 20 Round Mags
You'd have to have a lot of Magazine sticking out of the Grip of a 1911 to hold 20 Rounds
Where do you guys buy these elusive 20 round G20 Magazines??????????

Thanks.  Yeah they are one of the few firearms manufacturers that recognize that 10% of the population are lefties and we buy guns too!  Joined the Savageshooters forum as well.

Well fate solved this dilemma for me.  here is the story. been looking at left handed 30-06 and similar calibers for a couple years just hadn't really decided on which brand model etc.  Anyway, this summer my son broke the portable DVD player on the way back from CA to CO.  As we are heading out there for the winter break, I needed to replace the DVD player for our sanity.  20+ hr car trip with a 5 and 7 year old ::)  couldnt find anything decent for cheap online so went and hit about 7 or 8 pawn shops.   in the second to last store, i happened to glance at the gun rack, always looking for left hand bolts.  Low and behold I saw one.   so asked to see it.  turned out to be a Savage 116 SS in 30-06.  Like new with scope mount and bipod.    Priced at $375.   Ok, I know from researching that its a $600 rifle new without the extras.  Asked what kind of deal i could get ..  10% off.   SOLD.   out the door for $374...   Merry Xmas to me.. then the last stop found a nice Sony portable DVD...  persistence and patience pays off...
Moral of the story, Good things come to those who wait :D ;D :P
Here is my new toy..

Thanks for the previous replies, I thnk i will be content with my current G20 setup for a while...   Just spent all my upgrade money heh

Gunsmithing / LW Custom Barrel lengths
December 14 2013 06:50:39 AM MST
I contacted LWD and asked about this. they said they can cut down their 9" barrel for $24.95 for any length requested.   I would like to make my G20 into a great hunting Gun and want to take advantage of the length that will work well but not be ugly as heck.

I have concerns about the 9" barrel in that it would seem to put a lot of force on the barrel lug when fired and possibly be less accurate due to movement beyond the end of the slide.   Currently I would like to use my stock Gen 4 slide. Hoping to hold out for a Gen 4 Long Slide at some point in the future.. I currently have the 2 port LW barrel and like it at 5.5 inches.   I see the 6" barrel has some really good FPS gains over stock.  so now I am leaning toward something in the 7" range and possibly ported.  then if I add a long slide at some point I could still use the same barrel.   Even stock that only has me 2" beyond the end of the barrel.  I thought about going with a threaded barrel and comp but don't really want the extra weight or length.  also having to unscrew the comp each time to remove the barrel from the slide seems a lot of hassle.

Anyone want to give advice on these ideas? would the extra inch over a standard 6" long slide barrel add much?  is anyone using a custom length barrel?  I have seen several posts/video of the 9" barrel but not found any crono data compared to say stock or 5.5 ported or 6 inch extended, 6.5" threaded etc.  actually would like to port it like the factory Glock barrels.

single stack, sub compact 10 or 40 would be real nice..  factory compensated would really help that size of gun.  I have my G27  C comp ported and its really nice to shoot.

thanks, learned something about that round.
seems 6" is the magic number for both the 10mm and 9x25.  if you can get a long slide threaded 9x25 that yield about 6 1/2" on a glock

stuff I can eat.  deer, Hog, (is 10mm overkill for rabbits?)  prob sub 100 yards due to forest and terrain in Colorado mountains.  Buffalo would be good but those are not even hunts here.  if I add elk or moose i would prob need one of the rifle calibers though not sure which (so recommendations without these last two) though feel free to add suggestions for an occasional hunter of the bigger game. at which time i will prob be able to afford the dedicated 30-06 or similar.  when hiking and  backpacking i walk up on wild game regularly.  so i don't see needing to be far away other than the challenge of it.

I have seen these 9x25 barrels,  I am curious how a 9x25 compares to a 10mm?  seems like it would be good for hunting?

General Discussion / what gun to buy next???
December 12 2013 07:41:29 AM MST
So I got my G20 and got hooked on the 10mm bug. but I am undecided on which upgrade to do.  currently have the LWD extended/ported barrel.   Would like to hunt  up to deer size at some point.  so was thinking of getting the Mechtech CCU.

Other options would be long slide and the 9inch LWD barrel or stay with OEM slide and prob cut barrel down to about 7" and possibly port or thread it.   The long silde LWD threaded barrel with comp would be another option...

I have a friend that is willing to teach me to hunt as I have never done it before, so is the hunting season different for rifle vs handgun?

However the only rifle I own currently is an AR15.    So might I do better getting a dedicated hunting rifle or caliber.   seems I can get a 6.8 or 7.62 for the AR or possibly just buy a Lefty bolt action like the Trophy hunter XP which I would prob go with 30.06

Unfortunaltely I can't afford them all   :(    Being a Lefty I'm not keen or right handed eject long guns which is one negative against the CCU but video look like the rounds eject down and forward.   the big down side to shooting a righty rifle is if there is a catastrophic failure its going to blow out across my face.......  Not something I ever want to have happen.    My AR is a lefty as would be the other AR caliber or the Savage bolt action.

So I read through the dozens of 10mm hunting threads.   just trying to decide if the 10mm is suitable.
Hopefully we can keep the replies out of the popcorn dept...   thanks
