The beat part of the video was the realistic distance for the shot. He was very close and right on top of that elk for great shot placement.

General Discussion / Re: Video to check out...

I'm not a bow hunter but have known many. If your bow huinting a big porker, then you get what you asked for, a good mauling. Bows are for deer, guns are for mean things. Can't go wrong with that thinking...... I apologize to all the upset bow hunters but bows are an entire rung down from guns IMHO.

From what I'm reading in military pubs etc, there is a heavy bias towards 40 cal. The problem is that it has been proven many times that the issue is expanding ammo, not the caliber. Once you go to fmj ammo it doesn't matter if it is 9, 10 or 45 it all becomes lousy. Heck, even in expanding ammo it is hard to see a diffference in the 9/45/40 at all. They should stick with the 9mm and educate the soldiers that the problem is that it is a PISTOL and not a rifle. For example the 5.7 with 20 rds per mag is just as good as anything else. Being tied to non-expanding ammo is the miltary's problem......

I was ready to buy yesterday. What is taking Zero so long? Oh, I'd really like it if it wasn't a powder puff load. If it was hotter than a standard 40 cal I would really like it! To many companies making weak 10mm that is not even loaded to hot 40 cal levels.

It is sold. I sold it half price to a member on this forum.

I'd like to make a coment on the video. The real question that needs to be asked is NOT the worn out "why can't I find powder", but why in the last 5 years that powder has been unavailable, haven't you built a new building and doubled your manufacturing base? Him stating that 2014 and 15 will be more of the same is a VERY lame statement. I just can't believe that the ammo component manufacturers have not stepped up and really increased production with new facilities. They are the most unwillling group to satisfy their customer demand I can think of. Any other market and it would be flooded with new production by now, after all they have had YEARS to build new plants. If I didn't enjoy shooting so much I would boycott the industry for the lack of supply and the willingness of them to let their sonxumer get gouged by the local dealers for years by marking up prices sky high. The NRA (I'm a life member) hasn't dealt with the subject. It has been swept under the rug. In the meantime we get ripped off by local dealers and online dealers while the manufactures turn a blind eye to the whole thing.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but if I went to the Shot Show I'd go off on every single one of them as they are helping to kill off  new shooters by making it too expensive to shoot. OK, I will stop ranting now, but I know you guys understand what I'm trying to say. :)

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: UnderWood Ammo
May 19 2014 01:10:09 PM MDT
Rojo, I agree with you. Underwood has been extremely overpriced (as well as everyone else). A box of any hot 10mm should be around 19.99 if we ever get ammo prices normalized again. Paying $35 bucks a box is robbery. I shoot the cheaper and weaker Armscor and PPU at 19.99 a box. If armscor would just put another grain of powder in the case they would have great 10mm ammo. As it is now it is fairly weak. It really doesn't cost anything to add that one grain.....

I am ready to give one of you guys a steal of a deal. I have a Mechtech upper with a Simmons 44 Mag 3-10 scope on it that I will sell half price. It is all brand new. I have less than 100 rounds through the gun. I am selling it as I need the money for every day living expenses. I repeat, this is all BRAND NEW with less than 100 rouinds through it. I have an extra rubber bumper that goes in the upper. E-mail me at spkrdctr@aol.com if you have any questions. Just google Mechtech and you will see it. I'm asking $250 plus $25 for shipping. Any offers? Takers?

General Discussion / Re: What's the best tip?
April 28 2014 03:13:55 PM MDT
I know most people on this site are pretty good shooters so I can give an advanced tip. When you want to check your stance, shoot with your eyes closed. See where you hit on the target and adjust accordingly. When I used to teach advanced shooting back when dinosaurs were running around, I would do a demonstration on how important trigger control was and not flinching, even over a slightly incorrect sight picture. poiint the gun at the target and intentionallly move it around in a small 1 to 1.5 inch circle. While doing this fire five shots about one every three to four seconds. When you check your target you will find that you still shot a fairly decent group. So, with your aiming point 1.5 inches off at say 30 feet and it moving all around you still shot good! Again you can even do this with your eyes closed. Hip shooting can be learned fairly easily if you practice it. I'd say don't go over 15 feet though. Anyway good luck and keep shooting!
