This group buy has closed, and delivered. MiHec may have extras available if anyone is interested.

The group buy is still open and taking orders. Get the 190gr to start. All the weight options have their place but if I had to pick one it would be the 190. Very versatile and accurate in both 10mm & 40sw.

The short pin is -5gr, the long pin is -10gr. The short pin inspired by the 357sig speer gold dot which is a higher velocity round like the 10mm. The long pin was inspired by the 40sw speer gold dot, which also has the .005" step between the nose and the body.  The meplate is as large as possible and still reliable feeding in a GLOCK. Any bigger and they start binding in the magazine. Everything was carefully thought out specifically for the 10mm/40sw on this boolit.

The short pin is great for hunting, especially in states that mandate the use of hollow point bullets. The long pin was designed to pass the 4-layer denim test as a self defense boolit. Both were designed for maximum boolit integrity during expansion when used with proper alloy.

From left to right: 200gr, 190gr, 170gr, 150gr.

If casting isn't your thing then this isn't for you.

This is not a SWC design at all. The blueprint is somewhat deceiving because it is something like 10,000% scale which makes features a couple thousandths in size seem much bigger then they actually. The step is there to aid sizing and is barely felt with a fingernail after.

You won't find a better WFN/RFN/HP mold for 10mm/40sw then the 190gr version. The 220gr is new but the 190gr is proven.

This boolit mold is up for another group buy, this time with a twist.  For the first time it will be offered in a 220gr, and in powder coat (no lube groove) version.

Here's the link to the group buy. Please read the first post carefully:

MiHec/Oreo: 10mm WFN, 220gr, 190gr, Optional no-lube-groove for powder coat

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: what if 10mm magnum
January 31 2014 07:08:53 AM MST
I looked seriously into the 10mm mag about 6 months ago.  Here's what I came away with:

Not only is there no commercial source of ammo, there's no load data for hand-loading your own. Further still, to make best use of this cartridge you need 250gr+/- bullets which aren't even made in this caliber. That means casting your own bullets, except that there aren't really any good molds in this caliber in that weight range so you're also looking at buying (and probably designing) a custom mold.  All-together, it's not an impossible task but it is an exercise in bushwhacking so far off the beaten path. It's a project for an expert reloader with deep enthusiasm; not the faint of heart.

What I found was that the cartridge was designed by a small gun manufacturer as an experiment for which they also designed a pistol specifically around the cartridge.  The entire project flopped and no other commercial manufacturer has bothered with the cartridge since.  The original manufacturer did a small production run from which a few examples occasionally turn up in the used market.

The original manufacturer never released any load data for the cartridge.  There was one guy notable for publishing some vague information about a handful of loads he developed that only achieved modest performance levels.  IIRC, he wrote off the cartridge as unable to perform. I'm skeptical and think the performance is there if someone were to really put their back into it, particularly with some heavy custom cast lead bullets.  Other then that, it's been up to the folks willing to ream out their 10mm revolvers and develop their own loads. That's such a rare person it amazes me that Starline still bothers to make the brass, but they do.  I'm willing to bet someone out there has figured this cartridge out and has a few pet loads but good luck finding that person to get the load data.

After all is said and done, a .41 mag gets you to the same place cheaper, faster, and easier.  Most folks will opt for the 44mag or the 45 long colt.  These are well developed cartridges with paths blazed in all directions for ammo and load data availability.

Charter arms made revolvers in 40 &10mm. Bulldog is what they were called I think.

You really need to post your experience and questions here:

Results Thread: Mihec 10mm - 200gr WFN / .40s&w - 180gr HP, 4-cavity, Brass

Those are the guys who have the most experience casting with this mold. They can help you diagnose problems better then I can.

Well, its not absolutely necessary but I recommend heat cycling the mold block a few times to get a bit of oxidation on the brass prior to contact with molten lead. I strip the mold halves down and place them cavity side up in a stainless frying pan then place the pan on an electric hot-plate set on high. After an hour turn off the burner and allow to air cool for 20min or so. Repeat twice more. Each time you'll see the color of the brass get a little darker.

Check the bottom of the sprue plate for burrs. I usually run a ceramic sharpening rod over the bottom a few times to remove them. This way you don't scratch the top of the blocks opening the sprue plate.

Other then that, there's a few tricks with adjusting the mold parts. For instance, the Cramer hp pins each have two locating pins. The locating pins slide in the mold block better when they're left just a little loose in the cramer pin.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: WSF - Good / Bad ???

What those two said.

I've tried it because WSF is all I use in 40sw. Turns out it works great if you want some light plinking loads.

Ramjet, please also share your experience in the results thread over on CastBoolits.

18" of penetration is fantastic, perfect actually. That's the FBI ideal standard for a duty bullet and exactly what I wanted from the design.

I have been contemplating doing some actual ballistics gel testing according to the FBI protocol, including 4 layer denim tests, drywall tests, and 20ga steel tests just for fun. That all requires time of course and I have none at the moment. (Hard to believe, but I have yet to actually fire a single one of these boolits.)
