Ordered one thru my LGS on Tuesday. No idea when it will show up. Already have a Nighthawk 6" 10, that I truly love. But one can never have too many 10's. Currently have three. Plus, I have a soft spot for DW's.

Laughed at your last sentence about brass and orbits. I've been shooting 10's for a long time and currently own four. If there is anything that angers me is having to gather up brass from the "back forty". But, I guess it is worth it.

I think this is a good wake up call for all of us.  It's time for each and every one of us to get off our back sides and get out there doing our part to make sure some of those clowns don't get re-elected again.

General Discussion / Re: My biggest problem with 10mm
April 13 2013 12:36:42 AM MDT
I quit casting my own many years ago.  Just don't like doing it.  So I buy mine.  None of the cast bullets I shoot in my 40 S&W work well in my 10.  I bought some 170gr. bullets from Montana Bullet Works and they have worked well.

Around the first of the year my jacketed 40 cal bullet inventory was BAD!  Just out of pure luck i was surfing the sites one evening and Midsouth had a few 1900 count boxes of 180gr. Hornady HAP's in stock.  So I snagged one.  That has made my 10mm reloading a lot easier.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: My first NHC-10
March 31 2013 08:02:10 PM MDT
This is my second NH and both have been exquisite in fit, finish, operation, etc, etc.  In replacing the grips on my T# I encountered a bushing that had been set in thermo-nuclear grade loctite and I boogered up the bushing.  My mistake, not theirs.  I was installing new bushings anyway, so no big deal.

I own and have owned, a lot of 1911's, including LB's, DW's, Springers, Colts, etc, no Wilson's or Ed Brown's, but for me the NH is absolutely tops.

d762nato, mighty nice looking stuff there.  I want to think that C-bob looks very familiar.  Oops, just saw your other post in response to mine.  Yup, it does look familiar.  Beautiful gun.

I'm down to just one 10 and it's a NH - Talon.

Bobtail, all black, reverse crown barrel.  Had it about two months now with roughly 1000 rds. through it.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Nighthawk Talon 10mm

This Talon hit a dealers shelves and I knew it wouldn't last long.  Had wanted one for quite a while so I didn't have to do much thinking, just had to figure out where the money was coming from.

It's a 5" bobtail with all black nitride finish.  Replaced the OEM grips, which are UGLY with this set from Sarge.  I've had it about six weeks now and put about 800 +/- rounds through it.  So far it is doing really well.  A strong load of AA9 under a 180gr. HP/XTP seems to be the right combination.

This is my third 10mm, I had a Kimber SS Target and a DW C-Bob that both have been sold.  I think this is a keeper.  Pondering getting a Guide's Choice Chest Holster for it.  That would make it an ideal hiking and fishing combination.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Brass life for 10mm - any brand

At least one person here has mentioned that his 10mm brass actually shortens after additional usages, and I believe actually gets to the point of being too short to use anymore.
But don't throw it out.  Once it gets short enough, start using it in your 40 S&W!   ;D  ;D  ;D

Just kidding!

Like others have said, don't go buying stuff you may or may not need.

Personally, I don't get too hung up on a brand or name.  I've been loading for close to 60 years now and don't think I've got much of anything except maybe an old Pacific upstroke c-press that my grand dad gave me when I was 10-11 years old.  It still works great.  I load several calibers, rifle, pistol and shotgun.  Way too many I might ad, and my equipment ranges from RCBS. Redding, Lyman, Hornady, PW, Dillon, etc.  I don't own any Lee equipment and I think that is a carry over from years long past.  In the early days, Lee equipment was pretty much junk and admittedly that effects my attitude today.  I have been looking at their "factory" seater as I like the concept of the die.  Over time Lee equipment has improved considerably, IMHO.

Good luck; however, take it slow and easy.  Do your homework, before you go digging into the piggy bank.  Also, afetr you have an idea what you want to do, don't hesitate to buy used.  A lot om my die sets have been purchased on ebay.  In fact I just bough a very slightly used three die set of dies for my 454 Casull.  I paid less than half of a good new price.  The dies have seen little use and are in perfect condition.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Pass-Thru Sizing using LEE FCD
February 16 2013 02:53:04 PM MST
I use a Redding GR-x on range pickup 40 S&W to get rid of any Glock bulges. I only do that the first time the brass goes into my inventory as my 40's are both STI's.  My 10 brass starts as all new Starline and doesn't get pushed thru sizing.

I don't work my brass anymore than I have too so I only full length, push thru when it is absolutely needed to assure that my loads feed properly.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Fat Kids
February 16 2013 02:30:26 PM MST
When all this panic started my reloading supply cupboard was in pretty good shape except for 10mm bullets.  I could find 100 here, maybe another 100 there, but nothing to get the shelves looking good.  I would run through my list of favorite suppliers every evening without much success until a week ago.  I hit the MidSouth site and look what I found.

BINGO! 1900 pcs. Hornady 180 gr. HAP's.  I definitely feel better now.  It sure would be a shame to have this new NH Talon sitting here with nothing to feed it.  MidSouth's inventory vanished in a few hours.   All 10mm/40 jacketed bullets were listed as back ordered again.

There are times when even fat kids get lucky!   :D   ;D

Welcome to the forum claimbuster!  That NH Talon is a very nice looking piece!  Where you and I differ is that I only have experience with the Blocks. :D

Nothing against the 1911s overall, I just took a different path.  Since I'm not well versed in 1911s from any end of the spectrum, what kind of ballpark amount does one have to shell out for a NH similar to yours?  And, would it generally be considered a step up from the Kimber or Dan Wesson you had in the past?

Thanks for the invite!

As we used to say, NH is pretty proud of their 1911's.  This one cost me $3400 but I will say, it came with a very nice cordura bag.  :D.  It is my second NH and IMHO, neither the Kimber nor the DW come close.  But then neither do their prices

New guy here from north Texas.  Recently retired which I have learned means trying to do more things with less money.

Been shooting and reloading rifle, handgun and shotgun for going on 60 years.  That doesn't really mean anything other than I am old!

Afraid I am very old school in types of handguns I shoot, but more modern in my rifles.  Really into hunting AR's.  Shoot revolvers up to, and including the 454 Casull.  Almost 100% of my semi-auto handguns are 1911's.  Don't own, nor have I ever shot a Block!  Been loading and shooting 45ACP for 50 years, but new to "tens".  My first was a Kimber Target that I enjoyed, but not quite enough.  My second was a DW C-Bob, it too has been sold.  My latest is only three weeks old, a NH Talon.  I really like it.  It is accurate, reliable and fun to shoot.  So far in it's load development, Blue Dot and a Hornady 180gr. HAP seems to be the right combination.

Glad to be here and look forward to participating when I can.
