Range reports / Re: Shot my Chrony.

Hey I know this is an old thread, but I shot mine yesterday with the Glock 20, only took out one of the shade rods, I found it and was able to bend it back enough so atleast its still works, so thats shot #2, earlier this year it took an xtp from my G19 to one of the front corners, no vitals hit, so its been pretty lucky. I have a Caldwell and so far its been pretty good.

Thanks guys, I thought I goofed up in the process. I'm going to load some more this week.

Yesterday I loaded 10mm for the first time. I used some once fired by me Hornady nickle brass, I believe I got from their critical defense load a couple years ago. I resized the brass and inspected did not see disformation, I used 9.6 g of blue dot, cci #300 , and a 180g XTP COL 1.260, after shooting 5 and recovering the brass I noticed one of the cases was vertically cracked and had black burn around crack. The primers were not flattened and the cases were not bulged. I've been reloading a couple years now but only reload once in awhile. So my question is, what is the most likely cause of this crack? These rounds were chronographed at average 1150, I used Lonewolf 6" bbl, reloaded with Lee 4 die set and measured each powder weight on my beam scale. Kind of creepy finding that case like that. Only happened with one piece of brass. could this just be a bad piece of brass or am I screwing up? I reloaded according to Hornady manual with the exception of the primer I used Cci and book used WLP

I develop my loads to be shot in my factory Glock barrels, the brass does bump out to fill the chamber which is 0.4340".  I use a pass through sizing system to recondition the brass for reuse.  I use a LEE FCD with the guts removed and a steel push pin for that operation.  (SEE Redding GRX and LEE Bulge Buster)

If you are getting SMILES there are some things to consider.
Recoil system in my Glock-20SF, I use a non captive Wolff Gun Springs Steel rod with 22 lbs spring, I have a 24lb but only use it for heavy load testing.  In my G-29 I use the non captive Wolff Gun Springs steel dual rod and 21 lbs spring set and the 23 lbs for extreme heavy loads at times.

I believe the non captive setup to hold lock up slightly longer than the factory captive setup.

The other thing is the actual load you are using to include the type powder and primers for the bullets.  Adjust accordingly!

Im wondering if the non captive spring makes a difference, Im using a captive 22# spring, but i may have to give the non captive a try if it gets rid of the smiles. I have a Lee FCD and plenty of brass I could try it out thanks!

If you keep it mild to medium I'd say 'many'.

Ok thats what I was hoping

Reloading 10mm ammo / Reloading for Glock 20

How many times can you reload your Glock 20 brass using factory barrel? Ive only been reloading a couple years and mostly straight walled cartridges and 9mm. Most of my Glock 20 brass comes out with pronounced smiles. I have a Lone wolf barrel but its throat doesnt have much more support if any more then my factory barrel however the chamber is much tighter. I have reused my revolver brass over and over again. I was thinking of buying some new starline brass for the 10mm for regular 10mm reloads nothing really Hot like Underwood that I have been shooting but If I only get one cycle through the brass I will just continue to buy factory ammo.

Got my LW bbl about 2 years ago, I was getting FTF with UW 180's until I polished the feed ramp, chamber and finally I took some emery cloth on the top of the bbl where it seemed to be hanging up against the bbl hole in the slide. No problems since, but the lack of support keeps me from buying another LW, looks like I will look into another bbl.

My lone wolf bbl seems to have the same lack of support as my Glock factory bbl, and I have had alot of brass look just like the pic posted with bulges, I thought those were considered "Glock Smiles" and normal? I havent had any popped primers.

What gun are you loading for?  I've been happy with the Black Bullets International 165 gr. so far for "cheaper" plinking loads.  $100/1000 shipped, less if you buy a case.  The PowerBond plated bullets are also awesome (it's what RMR usually sells even though they don't tell you that).  But if you can get FMJ for the same price or less I would go that route.

Thanks for all the help! I've taken some notes and bookmarked a few places for bullets.

New to reloading, so far I have only reloaded 44 mag using Hornady 240 Gr XTP's. I have been putting together my reloading outfit and right now using a Lee hand press and Lee Deluxe dies. I have 2 reloading manuals, Hornady's 9th edition and Lee's Modern Reloading manual. I have managed to buy primers and some different powders over the past few months (Unique, H110, Win 296, Alliant 2400 and Bullseye) the only brass I have is once fired from my Glock 20 and the majority has bulges, so I havent decided if I should just buy new brass or buy a die that will reform the bulges. The LGS's I have seen only a limited selection of bullets usually XTP's, but I see bullets on Gunbroker by Montana Gold and XTREME and thinking maybe this is the way I should go for my desire to punch paper and get more shooting time with the 10mm without having to buy premium bullets. I plan on using the Unique and probably 180 Grain jacketed bullets and following the load data in the Lee book. Any suggestions as far as what bullet manufacture I should go with or stay away from? And where online is a good place to order? Thanks

I had a few pieces of brass look like that shooting some Underwood using stock spring and barrel. I put in my 22lb spring and the problem disappeared.

No lot/batch numbers on any of my Underwood ammo. Maybe the delivery guy dropped that box.... more reason for me to start reloading.

BillC, it took over a year for things to return to normal with the '08 panic. This panic is actually at least two separate ones, minimum. First people freaked in November when Zero got re-elected. Then they freaked after Sandy Hook and rumblings about gun control. In the mean time, there were crazy people who thought the world would end in December and there are troubles with the economy. On top of that, the GWOT has been a significant effect on small arms prices since about '05 and then DHS bought a bunch of boolits. Don't get me wrong, there are lot of factors keeping this one going but it's not magical pixie dust. It will eventually come to an end. In the mean time, try not to exacerbate the problem if you can.

What in blue 4vck do illegals have to do with anything?

Nothing, absolutely nothing, it has no affect on your 2nd amendment rights or mine, its all good, it will all be better tommorow because after all its just like 08' and because I dont want to "exacerbate the problem" I will keep telling myself that.  ;)
