Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: 180 grain XTP or Gold Dot

I prefer the XTP 180gr myself. Lower cost and very accurate. Based on the tests I have seen it seems to be just about perfect for self defense at factory ammo velocities:

According to a couple of pulldowns The Shadow did and posted, the Hornady factory load uses 8.0 grains of BE-86

Handguns / Re: .357 Sig
December 24 2019 03:12:45 PM MST
I have a Glock 31 (.357 Sig) and love it! An accurate pistol and cartridge IMHO.

I find it easy to reload and find bullets for.  I use  Hornady .355 / 9mm 124 Grain XTP over Power Pistol for serious loads and X-treme plated .355 / 9mm 124 Grain over AA#5 for range fodder.

I have had no problem with head spacing.  While they are supposed to head space on the case mouth, I suspect they usually head space on the shoulder. I lightly lube them with spray lube then just run them through a Lee steel sizing die and that's it.   I then tumble them with SS pins, soap hot water and lemishine. Once dry I load them up and crimp them with a Lee factory crimp die to prevent bullet set back.  Easy peasy.

So I loaded up some test rounds with the 180 gr XTP over 8.0 grains of BE-86 in brand new Starline Brass and CCI #300 primers. According to the pull down list, this should mimic the  Hornady factory round.  This is what I was initially after. I will test them and report back.  I took some time off work for Holidays so maybe I can hit the range and do some chrono work if the weather cooperates. I'll post my results.

I loaded some up with 8.0 grains of AA #5 last night to test. I hope to get to the range after Christmas and test them out.

Reloading 10mm ammo / X-Treme 180gr Plated Bullet loads
December 16 2019 10:27:53 AM MST
Just ordered 500 X-Treme 180gr plated bullets to load some range loads for my XDm10. Just looking for moderate loads to practice/plink with. I think these plated bullets cant be driven much past 1200fps without damaging plating if I remember right.

Anybody use these with any success? Any pet loads you would like to share?

4given, I'll be interested to see how close those loads come with your XDm10 4.5".  I think the 7.2 grains of BE-86 will be on the money!

I'll post my results as soon as I get to the range.   Might be a little while with all the Christmas stuff going on right now. I noticed in the 10mm pull down master list that the Hornady factory loading was 8.0 gr of BE-86.   I know the box said 1180 fps but I think most guys were averaging 1155 or so out of the G20 with this load. I think I will load a few with 8.0 gr also.

I know a guy that has a G20 and an XDm10 4.5 and tells me the same loads are quire a bit  faster out of his XDM. I know that does not mean that all XDM -10's are that way but it is interesting.

Tons of online data from Speer, Nosler, Accurate powder, etc that should give you the info. What might produce that velocity in my gun may be 100'ps different in yours. You'll have to play with it to get that velocity. FWIW, if you're going to buy a loading manual, buy the Lee manual. It's a compilation of all of the manuals.

Yep you are correct. I'll shoot my test loads over my chrono and also shoot groups to check for accuracy.

4given, Using BE-86 powder you may want to drop to 7.2 - 7.4 grains to yield the 1150 fps you seek...

Thanks Shadow!

BE-86 should foot the bill

I thought of BE-86 but the available load data is lacking. The Alliant Powder website only shows a max load.  Not sure if the Hornady manual has data for this powder. I don't have a Hornady manual.

Reloading 10mm ammo / 1150 FPS load with 180 XTP
December 11 2019 09:36:24 AM MST
I am looking to develop a low flash load with a 180 XTP  that runs around 1150 fps out of my XDm10 4.5".

For test loads I have loaded up 8.5gr of AA#5 and 6.0gr Tightgroup

Any suggestions for any other powders / loads to try to meet this criteria?

I an not interested in full house loads. I have plenty of those.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing!

I just bought a XDM 10 4.5 and have been developing loads too! I just loaded 30 rounds of 180gr XTP over 9.0 grains of Longshot lit with CCI 300 primers in Starline cases.  It will be interesting to see how my velocities will compare to yours. I will post my results in this thread. Did you use standard or magnum primers?
