10mm Hunting / Re: RMR or Red Dot
July 29 2020 04:03:37 PM MDT
My Glock 40 came with a Vortex Venom RDS that would not hold zero. I replaced it with a Trijicon RM07 w/ waterproofing kit and that sighted in well and held zero, but would cut in and out at times. I shimmed the battery with a piece or the battery packaging and it has been 100% ever since. I put the Vortex venom on one of my AR's and it has held zero fine on that. Evidently the Vortex did not like the slide reciprocating.

Thanks for the answers. I feel more confident with the Noslers now.

10mm Hunting / Underwood 200 gr. Nosler JHP
December 24 2019 01:01:41 PM MST
I did a search with no results so forgive me if this has been asked and answered before.
Does anyone have experience with the Underwood 200 gr. Nosler JHP on whitetails? I normally use the XTP loading, but I bought these by accident. They both shoot equally well through my G40 but what research I did showed that the Nosler did not perform as well through denim as the XTP. I am worried that the Nosler will plug with fat and hair. Or am I just overthinking it? I have 25 XTP's and 60 of the Nosler's.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: I want a new 10 MM...

I love my G40 for hunting and woods walking and want to add a Gen 4 G29 to it for a backup in the backpack. I added a an RMR, a Lone Wolf Apha Wolf barrel and matching comp awhile back. I also want to get a KKM 7" barrel to play around with.
I never thought about using it for a steel gun. With the Alpha Wolf Comp it out to be great for that. I don't reload, but I can get Magtech 180's for $20/50 at the LGS.

I would love to see Underwood sell in 50/ct boxes.

Does anyone know how to tell which box the higher velocity Magtech 180's would be in? There are 2 LGS that sells the Magtech 180's near me. One is in a smaller box versus the other and both are blue and white. If the MV is printed on the box, I can't find it.
I shot some Magtech 180's out of an XDM a couple weeks ago, and there was a good amount of recoil, but I have always felt Magtech was a little harsher on the recoil.

I shot 5 rounds of the Magtech 180 gr, RN today out of a new SA XD (M) today. It had some pretty good recoil. I have always felt the Magtech ammo was a little hot. I shoot the .357 Mag 158 gr SJSP and the .44 Mag 240 Gr. SJSP and those are pretty stout. I usually shoot Armscor 180's, but the Magtech's run $18.99/50. I am gonna buy a couple boxes and see how they shoot through my Glock 40.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Federal 10mm 200gr 1135

I love the HST's and this one will be a welcome addition. I use 147 gr. +p in my EDC 9mm's and 230 gr. HST in my G21. A 200 gr. HST out of my Glock 40 oughta scream. Can't wait!

Sorry if this is a dumb question as I am new to 10mm but not shooting. How can the stock Glock RSA affect bullet speed?

I have had several 700's of various flavors over the years. I currently have 2, both with the factory stock X-Mark Pro triggers. I have not made any adjustments at all to these and do not plan to. I have not had the recalls done either. They work great for me and I expect them to for years to come.

Yeah, I read those 2 posts. But unless I missed it, I did not see any accuracy results or opinions about the load from people who have shot it, which was what I was wanting to know.

Factory 10mm ammo / Team Never Quit

Has anyone tried out the Team Never Quit 125 gr. Frangible? I bought a box at Cabela's for $15.99/20. I thought if they shot well enough, they might make a good HD load.

I plan to shoot it out of my G40. I will hopefully get to the range in the next few weeks to try it out.

Gear/Equipment / Re: Aftermarket Sights for Glock 40

If you are not wanting a red dot, then Fiber Optics are the way to go. I would stick with just the front sight for quick acquisition should the bear poop hit the fan.
FWIW, I stayed away from red dots for a long time, now that I have them, I wished I had done it sooner.

My G40 sports a Trijicon RMO7 and Trijicon Suppressor night sights. It does double duty as HD/Woods pistol.
