Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Go to choice for XTP bullets
March 28 2025 06:48:40 AM MDT
I run a Mechtech upper on my Glock 20 and the accuracy is astounding with 200 grain WFN GC PC Cast bullets. But as far as XTP in the 10 lighter and faster is what I prefer. That said the cost on these projectiles is ridiculous. This is why I cast my own and load my own. When you run a WFN hard it doesn't need to expand I have taken many deer with this combination with great success. Handguns and the XTP though light weight drive them hard.

Nice test. I really like the Ransom rest but your table has to be super stable. Thats why I haven't invested in one yet because I would have to pour a concrete bench.  I like your Utube videos by the way appreciate what you guys put into them.

How many of you reloaders for 10mm are using a taper crimp die as a separate operation when reloading cast bullets.

Since my number came up, so did my wife's, all my kids over 21, my mom and my son-in-law.  We all had our CMP 1911's at my house yesterday for Sunday dinner, so I grabbed a "family photo":

Top is my mom's field grade.  Below is my service grade, with my wife's rack grade nestled in upside down.  The bottom row (L-R) is oldest child's rack grade, next child's rack grade, and then next child and spouse's field grades.  Note that the third child got an actual 1911, not an -A1. Serial number tells us it was made in 1918.  That gun is also marked that it had an Ogden Depot rebuild, which is a nice tie in for us Utah folks.  The rest are Remington Rand or Ithaca frame and/or slides, except my service grade which as a DSE replacement slide.

After we ate we gathered around the island in the kitchen and detail stripped them, no tools needed.  It was a fun day.

I have three more kids that are under 21.  Hopefully they will all be able to buy their own when they turn 21, but if the CMP runs out before then, my mom's, mine and my wife's will go to them.

The journey is a lot of fun, and if you haven't checked out the CMP but want a 1911, head on over.  I would guess round 4 of applications will start early next year.

That is very cool photo.

10mm revolvers / Re: Ruger and S&W 10mm revolvers

Excellent expansion tests. I had several 10mm revolvers I used moon clips they were just quicker. Just need to make sure they do not get bent. What I found with my S&W was it liked lighter bullets than it did heavy bullets as far as accuracy. The reason I decided to part with them is because I like my 1911 and Glock 10mm allot more than a handgun and I already have 44mag revolver so no real need. That said it?s a good caliber for revolver and many custom iterations out there that are intriguing.

This unusually warm weather does not help. But next week the best times for the rut 7,8,9,10 of November in NE Wisconsin get those nocturnal bucks moving during the day outside their areas cruising for a willing girl friend. Good luck
