Those knife hunts are a level of barbarism I want nothing to do with.  But to each his own.

I've always preferred light bullets at high velocity over heavier/slower.  I like the increased accuracy (less time to target) and lower recoil.  With a flatter trajectory there is more of a chance of hitting your exact aiming point.
So these bullets are right in my ballpark, along with the 6.5 LFPs for my Grendel.

I read an article some years ago from a writer who works on a game ranch in Texas and has witnessed hundreds of hog kills.  He said that high velocity bullets kill hogs quicker and more reliably than slower projectiles like 12-gauge slugs, the old 45/70 or 45acp.

I recently built my first AR to take into Texas for some hog hunting.  6.5 Grendel.

Bought a 10mm 1911 and would like use that also if conditions are right; only close carefully aimed shots.  Like at a feeder, from a blind.

I wonder how these work on feral hogs?
I bet you can get those 115g pills up to an amazing velocity.

Factory 10mm ammo / Re: Magtech 1,000 rounds for $295
June 29 2018 09:51:17 PM MDT
Magtech is going for $17.99 a box at my local Sportsman's Warehouse.  If you're a Veteran the 5% discount drops it to $17.09 which is 34c a round, not bad for a small quantity.  Good brass for reloading too.

Same price for the S&B (that's advertised at the same velocity of 1164fps) but the Magtech I bought impressed me enough that I'll stick with it.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Magnum Primers?
June 29 2018 07:17:31 AM MDT
Local GS is getting rid of their reloading stuff at 50% off.  The only consumables they have left are Fed 155 Large Pistol Magnum primers.  They're really cheap and I need to save wherever I can.

I have three reloading manuals (and those online) and they often don't list which primers they use with their recipes.
One reloader told me to stay 1/2 grain below max when using magnum primers.
One article said that magnum primers can be interchanged with standard primers and are often more consistent (so more accurate).
Some have told me that they use whichever they have on hand at the time with no change in recipe.

Thoughts?

Just got a rock 10mm FS Ultra myself.

Anyone have any input on OP's post other than fitting magwells on HC versions?

You haven't fired yours yet?
I got the FS myself when they were $500 at Sportsman's Warehouse a few weeks ago.

I love it and couldn't be happier.
Went to the range with two boxes of ammo: Federal 180g (40 cal velocity) and Magtech 180g (1164fps), both functioned perfectly with 0 problems or failures.
The Federal was more accurate and the Magtech snappier.  Not quite as accurate as the Fed but not bad and at $17 a box a great deal.
Very first 5-shot group was 1.790" at 10 yds with hand resting on bag.  Second group was 1.5" and gun shoots better than I expected.

Six months ago I didn't know anything about 40cal or 10mm or Glocks.  I wasn't in the market and at my age I try to not clutter my brain with info I probably won't use.

I got here in a round-about way.  Read of the police-trade-ins and liked that I could get an M22 for around $300.  Did some research and learned of the cartridges and started saving up some of my SS money to get that Glock.

A month ago I got the email that the local Sportsman's Warehouse had the RIA 1911 for $500.  Did a little more research on 10mm and RIA and jumped on one.

Absolutely love the pistol and love the cartridge!  The biggest I'd owned in the past was a .357 Ruger Security Six in the '70s and this new one impressed me from the first shot.  Crazy powerful, felt the concussion in my chest but controllable because of the weight of the 1911.  Amazingly accurate too.  And it can be reloaded fairly cheaply.

I've noticed that the 10mm has a rabid following; those that like it absolutely love it and now I'm one of them (just as we are with the 6.5 Grendel).
I can understand how and why the 10mm is gaining in popularity.

Edit:  I think a big part of the resurgence is the less-expensive guns (like the $500 RIA).  The 10mm handguns were out of the reach of many until just recently.
And edit again:  Sorry, I have excluded the Glocks.  They've been priced reasonably but I've always been more interested in the 1911.

Which frame fits your hand better?  I have medium-sized hands and only like single stack frames.
I have a RIA and have seen some sights specifically made for their dovetails.  Don't recall where I saw them.

I've only had my RIA for a month but love it so far and the dozen+ review videos I watched were all 100% positive.  I'd like to get the RIA longslide and save some cash.

General Discussion / Hello from Albuquerque

In my 60s, retired on SS so tiny gun budget.

Gun nut all my life, used to own about 20 but didn't hunt so most were just collected and rarely fired.  Eventually sold off all but a handful of .22s and my Win 101 O/U.
Retired and moved to NM three years ago.  At some point stumbled on some feral hog hunting videos and got hooked.
Six months ago built my first AR in 6.5 Grendel and saving up to shoot some Texas hogs.

Last month Sportsman's Warehouse had the RIA 10mm on sale for $500 and I grabbed one.  Love it!  First 1911 and first 10mm and looking forward to popping some hogs with it.
Just bought 10mm dies and getting setup to handload.

Also active on Rimfire Central and 6.5 Grendel forums.
6 year Navy veteran.
