I'd chime in about how far my RIA 5" throws brass, but I dropped in to find what the OP was trying to find out-how far the XD's ejection pattern is...
To the two posters that shared their experiences with the XD: Thanks!

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: XDM 10mm

Also shot some of my existing loads, interesting comparisons -

13.0gr AA#9 over 200gr WFNGC @1.25"
XDM 4.5" 1229fps
GP100 4" 1239fps (was expecting this to be slightly less than the XDM??)

Really glad to see the XD runs on the 200gr WFNGC's, and thanks for posting it! I've been waiting to see reports they'd run well on the loads I want one for, now I really really wanna get one!

I'll be getting some of the Montana coated, and like MBC's "Steelers" for practice.
I've been using Mobtana's 200 WFNGC for a while and love them-that meplat is awesome! I also use their 260WFNGC in my 44m 94. Really glad they started running 200 WFN's coated, now I've just got to recover financially from my Coues hunt (expensive bowl of tag stew this year) and order some!

I'm with Spudmeister on this one.

I got a 5.5" Redhawk in 44M for a hunting defense sidearm a couple years ago. One buddy I hunt with a lot is a born and raised wheel gun guy, and even though I've been a more practical/tactical shooter his influence carried weight.
After a couple thousand rounds through the Redhawk, I'm ok with it. I got an RIA 10mm earlier this year and it shoots 200gr WFN's really well. While out with said buddy (who was present for a lot of my shooting the Redhawk), he watched me hammering targets with the 1911 fast and intuitively. Well enough that he was prompted to ask me "why the hell do you even bother with a revo if you shot like that with a 1911?!?!"

After looking further, my research leads me to believe (as I've always trained folks) that only hits count in a gunfight.

So everyone can say and do what they will, but the fact that I can draw and fire two mags (including a reload) out of my 1911 faster than I can draw the Redhawk and get 6 rounds on target (tested under stress by a twenty yard run to truck and back to firing position included), I'm gonna carry the 10mm.

And I will agree to disagree with the comment on this thread that "you are only guaranteed one shot".

Think about how you carry, the situation (will the encounter include a tumble before you can draw, is your strong side going to be injured, will you lose the gun on the first swipe of an attacking animal, etc, etc), and you may soon realize that which gun you can print a smaller group with, from support, taking time at the range, may become an argument you don't wanna hang your hat on.

How many of you practice support hand only, on the move? Practice means doing what you hate/are weakest with until you don't hate it anymore. Regardless of caliber/platform, the will to win and preparing for the worst is the foundation of the equation.

Oh, and think about a lanyard, unless you plan on giving up when the fight starts.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Double powder charge

If you're worried about a double charge, and wanna load 180+ bullets in your 10mm, I would recommend AA#9. Good velocity, great accuracy, and no way to overcharge a case without knowing it.

Sized, tumbled and inspected/primed just under 150 4x S&B 10mm cases.
These were 180gr 1250fps loads to start, and then reloaded/fired with a mix of 180XTP, 180 and 200gr MBC hard cast coated, and 200gr Doubletap WFNGC's-all warm but not nuclear (1250-1325 on the 180's and 1150-1225 on the 200's). Fired out of a 5" RIA FS.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the brass is holding up very well with only 6 relegated to a final firing pile due to easy priming, and I've only suffered a 8% loss rate out in the desert and forward of the line at the indoor range.

With SG Ammo's prices on their loaded S&B, I may by more rounds as a source of brass again!

Looks like you passed the Longshot plateau, any pressure signs with the 9.7 load?

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: long shot

9.2 shot really well in my RIA 5" yesterday-didn't chrono (was at an indoor public range). 3x fired S&B brass showed no pressure signs.

Other loads tried successfully were MBC 180gr coated TC w/9.2, and MBC 200gr coated TC's and Doubletap 200gr WFNGC's. Both 200gr loads did well at 8.2gr.
I'm expecting to see 1250fps+ for the 180 loads and 1150+ for the 200's.

200 WFNGC's were loaded 1.230 for feeding, everything else 1.255".

Shoot 500 and report back (or to Springfield).
Kimber used to not even give an RMA for cycling issues if people hadn't shot 500 rds yet.

Maybe they don't like me, shows out of stock.

Great deal though.i love my ultra FS, but for that price plus having slide milled for sights one could still have a great pistol!

That didn't last long :o

As long as they'll deal with it if Springfield doesn't want to in the event they fiddle with it and it still malfunctions.

If I spent that kinda money on a new one I'd suck up tge patience and return it to the mothership.

Range reports / Re: what is causing this

Pretty darn good shooting rapid fire in my book!
Anything I can think of needing shooting would be pretty discouraged (unless that big ol Titan Elite is your choice of squirrel gun :D)

I'm REALLY happy I got the RIA Ultra FS. Outstanding value.
The finish wears easily (esp in kydex) but I am a tool guy, not a jewel guy.

I've had a variety of 1911's and recently became interested in 10mm. A year or so  ago I traded into a Redhawk 44 mag for carry hunting in mt lion/Black bear country. After working with it quite a bit, I was still a bit concerned about draw speed and getting rounds on target quickly (never been much of a revo guy), and at that time started looking hard at 10mm. I liked what I saw for energy with the loads I saw documented here, and realized I can draw and dump a mag with reasonable accuracy through a 1911 and reload intuitively faster than I can get 6 good shots off with the big wheel gun.

I bought a RIA Ultra FS, and am very happy I did! For under $600 ($565 shipped gunbroker score) I have a 10mm 1911 that is set up almost identical to my favorite 5" 45. I cleaned the heavy oiling it came in off and have ran ~450 rounds though it (S&B and MBC 180 and 200gr hard cast) without cleaning and only had less than 5 failure to return to battery hiccups. Most every 1911 I've had (Kimber, SA, Colt, Para) all slow down after that kind of round count without any cleaning, and the rounds I have ran I've ran a mix of the factory mag and Shooting Star 45 mags.

I'm really happy so far with it!
