General Discussion / 10mm and Bear report
October 15 2019 10:00:24 PM MDT
https://www.ammoland.com/2019/10/alaskans-stop-grizzly-bear-charge-with-glock-10mm-on-elmendorf-richardson/#axzz62RBJvReq

The hunter drew and two tapped the bear at full charge.

First shot definitely CNS. Second shot probably the same.

I now have two matching holsters from them for the G40's. One has the TekLok and the other has their Warlock. Not a fan of the warlock for hunting so I put it on my practice belt.

I called them up a while ago and they said TekLok stopped selling to mom and pop operations so they started using the warlock.

All the hole spacing are all the same and you can order the tek-lol separate from amazon for $10. Just tell redhill to include the hardware to attach it to the TekLok and it'll be all good.

Ill snap some pics tomorrow.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: New to 10mm and reloading

I mark all my 10mm brass for ease of pickup. Hate to loose any of my starline.

I'm happy with the factory barrel and a .401" moly coated bullet.

But at the end of the day if it works and gives you confidence then that's all that matters.

I would run a box or two just to confirm.

Montana has another bullet with a 0.300" meplat that will allow you to load a little longer. I'm at 1.245 right now and it feeds perfectly through the glocks.

Room for MOAR POWDER!!!!!

AA#9 needs the room.

Excellent, these look real good and I hadn't heard of the brand before.

Yeah even with just 'retention' not defensive retention I like it to be tight to where I can hold it upside down loaded with a full mag of 220gr hardcast and it won't fall out. I may need to check the competition holster out as well.

My holster from red hill can definitely do that. Had to run after the dogs in some hilly areas this year and didn't have any problems.

Keep in mind that the G40 is a little long. If you go with a holster that comes up past the ejection port in the front your probably going to need a bit more drop from the belt line to get a good draw without doing some weird contortions.

That kinda sucks as I like to hop back into the truck without taking my gear off.

I don't have the retention holster but I do have competition cut one that I use for hunting season. They use a dual layered kydex design that makes it really strong and stiff.

How long will the 20 rd mag be? I guess we will have to wait and see.

What gun?  I have had no magazine bind issues out to 1.260 with any of my loads.

Glocks.

With my experience with the 200 gr boolits:

Anything with a meplat of 0.30" or smaller will allow you to load to 1.250" OAL.

Larger meplats bind in the mag after the 5th or 6th round unless you load them shorter. However, this also takes away some room for powder.

I have a G29 and Lone wolf G40 clone with their new slime frame.  On my G29 I have a bar-sto barrel.   I never felt safe shooting max loads in a glock stock barrel.
I thought it was standard practice to replace the glock stock barrel for a barrel with a tighter chamber.
But since no one mentioned it I could be wrong.

Not needed for the newer G20 and G40's.

I did run into a guy at the range with a fairly new G29 and he was shooting some factory loads. The brass looked really bad.

200 gr moly coated WFN with 13.2 grains of A#9 will do 1280 FPS out of a stock g40.

Replace the lead with a 200 gr. hornady XTP and it'll be around 1230 FPS.

The most velocity with hornady book data and the 200 gr bullets is with that powder.

Others here have attained more velocity with different powders by going over book max but that's not my cup of tea. Long shot is pretty popular for those endeavors.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Another new 10MM at Shot?

I'd prefer a single stack the size of a g19 or g20.

The G29 doesn't have enough to give me purchase and I hate those extensions.

I also believe that a 4" barrel is the minimum for 10mm.

10mm Hunting / 200 gr Bullet from Montana Bullet works
December 29 2018 07:21:52 PM MST
Montana also has a .300 meplat 200 grain bullet. I don't think it's on the website yet but it's from the mihec mold and I can seat to 1.250" and not get binding issues.

Call Bruce up and ask for them.

Aim with the center top of the front sight. Here is a handy diagram I've found on google.
