Reloading / Re: What did you do today reloading related?
January 08 2021 08:58:05 PM MST
Just started reading this thread and realized I also need to put up some more shelves in my reloading room.  Just received 1K of Federal HST 124gn 9mm tips that I need to clean the sealant off of and confirm weight before I oad.

Also need to finish loading about 600 HST's in 10mm with my Bluedot load.

They work great in every caliber I've tried.  So far 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP.  Best thing is I only live about 10 miles from them.  My LGS carries most of their offerings on the shelf.

Even pushing them a little fast with Power Pistol in 9mm I've had no issues with fouling and still getting great accuracy with the 125gn cone shaped projo.

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: S&W 1006 find

I got one at a small local shop a year or so ago.  Came with the box and 3 mags.  Paid $750.  Gun was pristine and didn't look like it had been fired.

I put a 22lb Wolf spring in it.  Works good with all my Underwood ammo.

I'm on the hunt now for a 3rd Gen in 9mm.  Had a 659 back in the 80's and foolishly sold it.

If all else is equal (price, condition, etc), I'd suggest the later white follower Accu-Guide version.

Just FYI, you can pick up the white followers and many other mag parts at Numrich.  I ended up building 7 mags for my 1006 from parts on there site for around $60 each.

@Southernshooters

Paul Howell is the manufacturer of the stainless steel guid rods. His email is phowell_7@yahoo.com

They are $60 each, payable via PayPal friends and family or USPS money order.

I couldn't find my thread so found this elsewhere, hope this helps.

Thanks...!!!

After a trip to my local indoor range I believe I'm a happy camper. Shot the 1006 and 1066 and believe I like the 1066 just a bit better.

The white dots on the 1066 fixed sites were easier to pick up at this indoor range and my accuracy was better. It also seems to point naturally on target easier than the 1006.

I upgraded the 1006 with a stainless guide rod and new recoil spring but could not tell any difference between the old and new spring. I've also installed a new recoil spring in the 1066 but haven't shot it yet with the new spring.

I'll be in Parkersburg, WV in a few weeks and may leave the 1006 slide at Novak for sight overhaul. I really like these old 3rd generation Smith's and they are built like tanks.

Can you tell me where you bought the stainless guide rod for your 1006?  I've been scouring the net with no success.  Thanks...

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: RMR Bullets

Anyone know if American polishes the projos?  RMR says they do and their pic looks a lot nicer.  Not sure if that is worth the $7 premium.  However I did KILL my last tumbler polishing projectiles

Doh..!  I always get that backwards.  Thanks.

I have a 1006 with stock fixed sights.  It shoots low, about 5-6 inches at 25 yards.  Will this rear sight work to bring my POI up?  It appears to be a shorter sight than the one on my pistol.

Sorry not sure yet exactly how to link...

10mm semi-auto handguns / Re: Favorite 10's all time
April 19 2017 09:40:50 PM MDT
I just recently purchased a 1006 and it's becoming my favorite pistol.  I've been scouring the net for mags, parts, etc.  I was lucky, I paid $775 for the gun with 3 mags and the box.  Just a few very minor shiny marks on the lest side.  Other than that, appears LNIB.

At least I think I did pretty good.  My previous experience was a 659 that I never should have sold..!

It's  a shame S&W is not supporting some of the BEST semi-auto pistols they ever made.

New guy posting.  Recently picked up a S&W 1006 and started looking over here for parts.  Seems like a great forum for all things 10mm.  I've had a Glock 20 for over 10 years and reload for it.
