Hi-Tek coat them. You'll never use traditional lube or powder coat again.

Quote from: LuvMy10s on February 19 2018 12:28:26 PM MSTSorry but I forgot who suggested it but I polished the breech face and then the extractor which I believe was the real issue.  The exactor had some sharp edges that was digging into the brass as it was sliding up the breech. At home while cycling it I took a sharpie and marked the brass on a misfeed round then inspected it and found a big gouge on the neck of the brass where the extractor was making contact.

I think I'm having the same issue and was about to polish it out as well. Kind of a bummer since nearly every part of my gun is so well finished. Seems a shame they forgot to polish or just put a nice smooth radius on the extractor from the factory.

I wonder why these are not stock parts on some of the 1911 10mms, particularly because many 10mm 1911s in stock form seem under-sprung - 16-18# springs and compared to the P220 (very heavily spring), they all fling brass into the next timezone.

People want to pick up a gun at the sales counter and feel how nice and smooth and easy it is to rack.  Going to all the hassle and difficulty of cocking the hammer and then racking the slide on a 1911 is far, far to much work for most people these days.
I end up fitting new FPS on most of my 1911's. Dan Wesson, Ed Brown and Wilson normally have the correct FPS in them from the factory.
Kimber, Sig, Colt, Rock Island, Springfield . . . just about always need to be replaced.

What OAL are you using for the Normas?

They are factory, have not checked the OAL.

Pretty sure it's lubed well, grease on the roller and Slip2000 everywhere else.

Low power loads could be contributing since I'm burning through some junk.

I have gotten several fails to feed on the very first round loaded with Norma JHP. I'm guessing the OAL of the Norma's is off a bit for the GP.

Maybe I'll take a break from the junk and run some of the Sig FMJ

10mm semi-auto handguns / Grand Power P40 10mm Update
December 03 2017 06:21:27 PM MST
So I've been putting rounds through my Grand Power P40 every week or two since the mag drop problem was resolved. I'm shooting a grab bag of PMC, Remington, Norma, Winchester, Federal in FMJ-TC & JHP from 155 to 200 grain in weight. I have a couple thousand rounds of this stuff to burn trough and at ~140 rounds (10 Mags) per session I should be through it soon enough.
I am getting 0,1 or 2 failures to return to battery per mag. Mostly get 1, sometimes 2 . . but rarely get an entire mag shot with zero failures. Pretty consistently random on which mag, does not seem to be a mag issue, or it's all of them.

Anyone else having this issue?

You should be using a press mounted puller, much less work. RCBS and Hornady both make good ones.

I did not notice any change in pressure to, but it holds the mags just fine now.

I've shot a ton of powder pistol, but have been shooting Lovex Heavy Pistol lately. Replica of AA #9, great powder. I find it performs better for me on heavy loads, especially using 200 grains bullets.

Don't tell people about the Lovex aka Shooters World . . . it's super secret.
Everyone I tell about Lovex/Shooters World powder seems to think I'm trying to get them to drink Billy Beer. Oh well, more for us.

So how has the GP been for you? Still having problems with the magazines dropping?

See my post in the main pistol forum

Do you have a Grand Power and your mags are falling out for no reason? The profile on some of the mag catches was wrong and under heavy recoil the mag catch would loose contact and let the mag go. Very, very annoying. I thought it was just me at first and tried to train around it. Finally broke down and contacted Eagle Imports after being contacted by one of their people on the interwebs who read my post about the mags falling out.

Learn from my mistake, contact Eagle Imports and get it fixed. I'm a gunsmith so they sent me the parts when I asked nice. Don't be surprised if they ask you to send in the gun or send it to one of their authorized repair places.

Now my Grand Power 10mm is everything I hoped it would be since the silly mag falling out thing got taken care of. Maximum power with low recoil in a package the right size and weight to tromp around the woods with.

Great gun. Very well made. I finally have the take down and re-assembly worked out and it's almost easy now. Icky learning curve on the re-assemble part.

I think it's 4.25" barrel for P40. The GP Chrony numbers come in even lower than some 4" barrels.

Yup, brain fart. I'll fix it.

Thanks!

Got around to shooting a few of my collection of vintage loads over the chronograph with my 4.25" Grand Power. The temp was in the mid 30's where I live today. The CED M2 chrono screens were set 15" from the shooting position. All numbers are based on a minimum of five (5) good shots over the screens.

Sorted by USPSA Power factor, higher is more better.

I had one or two times where the mag dropped out of the gun the first time I shot it. I thought I was over that but it started happening again today. Seemed like the more stout loads were worse than the lighter loads. The magazine self disassembled once and scattered ammo and parts all over in the snow. It was sort of comical. My wife who has child sized hands shot the Grand Power with some of the light Federal loads and liked it. Not so much with the 170g Norma's.

Overall I was disappointed with just about all of these loads. None seemed all that powerful to me, not even the Norma's.

Compared to some of my .40S&W reloads and a factory Corbon load these results were sort of lame.

Some .45ACP loads for comparison

It does seem to be robust. The grip frame feels slightly smaller than my G20 SF. And of course it doesn't get beat up as much as a Browning recoil design.

I would call it significantly smaller than the G20SF and infinitely more comfortable.
