Handguns / Re: Let's talk Derringers...

So an update simply for the sake of updates.
I've gotten the American to have a smooth action and I enjoy it. I have not mastered the proper grip and trigger press on this one yet. It's shooting very high.
I loaded up some 300 grainers and had some fun. They buck decently out of the little Bond, but they are stupid accurate. I have not shot the American with a heavy load yet. I'm trying to get the grip issue solved first.

So the ADC showed up today. Shot it four(4) times before I had to do a trigger job. The sear had a hellacious Burr. It's still a work in progress but it's better . 22 rounds fired. It's a fun gadget, but it's less efficient than the Bond.

There is a lot of talk about what's stout in a handgun being impossible in a Derringer. I'm not a believer in this. I had some hotter than SAAMI .45 Colt that I chewed up in my vaquero the other day. It was thumpy in that gun as well. I'm hard pressed to explain it but the Bond is actually on par with the Vaquero with recoil. The speed of the impulse differs, but if discomfort is present in one it will be in the other too.

Not a soul to be found that wants to talk Derringers...
I'm waiting on a NIB .45 Colt American Derringer so I can make a comparison head to head about which I like the best. I've been focusing on accuracy and it's coming along. It's a big switch from a full-size gun that is easy to make hits with. I've had the epiphany this morning that I will load up the most comfortable load and go from there. So I'm experimenting back and forth between powders searching for minimal recoil.

Handguns / Let's talk Derringers...

So a little over a year ago I got all set on an American Derringer chambered in 10mm.  For whatever reason it never happened. I've come into a Bond Arms Mini in .45 Colt. I'm really happy with it. I'm having a great time shooting it. Playing around with various practice loads. I have a good amount of 160 grain LRNFP and Titegroup and Clays. Not particularly happy with Clays. Very dirty and caused a hard stuck case on a clean gun after about 18 rounds. Titegroup has heavier recoil, but I can shot fifty rounds at a time with no problems. I'm thinking about dialing the charge back a little and living with it.  Thoughts?

12.6 is what I run under a 180 for #7 and it's really accurate. Hot too. I use CCI Magnum large pistol primers.

Reloading 10mm ammo / Re: Worked up some loads with aa#9

Let's just say that there's room for improvement on the 180's. I'm running 14.6 in #9 on 180's. 12.5 in #7 on 180's. Accuracy is King. I'm around 1400 fps with the #9 and no idea what #7 is doing except stacking bullets.

Drop in a powder river precision trigger kit and forget about it.

Most hunting happens during the day, but night sights are a lot better than fiber optic in the first and final minutes. I like Trijicon HD sights personally. There is a lot of success to be had with TFO sights, but they are ugly. The info on the fiber optic sights is also very good. You don't want them to bloom too much and obscure the front sight or the target.

There's not a ton of velocity loss between the 3.78" bbl G29 and 4.6" G20, it's there but usually less than 100 fps.  My point is that a longer barrel won't make it kill any better and as for sights, they have newer versions of the TFO, the TFX and the TFX Pro, which I have on my G20 Gen4.
Well I can tell you that the same load out of a 29 has a higher level of energy from the 4.6 as opposed to the 3.78. my steel target spins a full revolution from a 4.6 hit dead center. The 3.78 has to strike much lower to come close to rotation of the plate. Same gun, different barrels, same spring set. I think it could be the difference in amount of expansion in hollowpoints and it's definitely the difference in hard cast penetration.

It comes with 2 cylinders im thinking the 40 could be reamed out to 10mm Magnum  :D

I just took delivery of one in 4 5/8 and it shoots 10mm like a dream.  Still have to dial in the sights but so far I'm impressed.  My first SA revolver buy hey its a 10  :D.  Is there any one on the forum that can ream the 40 cylinder to mag chambering?
You can ream the cylinder. That's what I'd do. 10mm Mag sounds fun, but wasteful without the ability to go back to something useful. Three cylinders for that gun I'd say. The loss of the .40 S&W is huge. You now have two calibers you can't find most places.

Check out KKM barrel for the Glock 29.  I am thinking the 20 barrels will not work on a 29
NO. LUGS ARE DIFFERENT. NOT GONNA WORK.

Gunsmithing / Re: 10mm Barrel to 40 s&w

Sorry for the late entry.....
Several manufacturers of 1911 barrels short chamber them and stamp them the bore diameter. You could possibly negotiate a match barrel to be short chambered with a 10mm stamping for you to final chamber to your exact match specifications.

You won't need to respring the gun until you start turning up the volume on the 10mm in reloads. The gun will not run factory ammo when sprung for the hotter reloads. Big time function problems. I carry a an 18.5 just in case the Delta has to "live off the shelves."
