First ... apologies.  I thought I had results that could confirm your target out in the cloud.  I looked but I've only uploaded data through 50 yards.  Good news is that the string of Federal 180gr soft point Trophy Bonded I measured delivered Ke at 800 from a 16" barrel at 50 yards.

You can find raw, unformatted data for  the entire 11 shot string here:

He links to Ammoland as his source.  The page at Ammoland is returning a 404.

Stay tuned.

I put one together recently.  It will see a lot of range time in the coming months.

I'm running the Bettermag Adapter 'cause I like the M&P 15-22 magazines.

Gear/Equipment / Re: Anyone using a Holosun 508T elite

I can't make a comparison yet.  But I also ordered one.  I do run a 507 on my 9mm PCC using the included Picatinny mount and the 508 will be riding an American Tactical FXH-45 (aka my plastic fantastic 1911).

There are several YouTube reviewer presentations.  The YouTubers rate them favorably and my experience with Holosun has been positive.

OP has impressive shopping skills.  My $296 shipped from Optics Planet was good enough to earn my trigger pull.

I stash a 9mm Kel Tec Sub 2000 and about 100 rounds of 147 gr Speer Gold Dots in the stash magazines.  The S2k is joined by a M&P m2.0 9mm which also uses those ready magazines.  The M&P is my travel sidearm and I added the Sub 2000 after a local hero dispatched a mass shooter with his AR.  I decided I wanted something that I can punch with at over 50 yards if my sidearm does its job and gets me to the truck.

I built it such that I can poke holes at 100 yards within 10 seconds of touching the folded carbine.

Thanks, I was just wanting to buy the Tactical Ultra MS and leave it as it is, no big updates

If the pistol has the features you want ... go for it.  RIA's lifetime warranty is real; they'll get it running if you experience problems.

I have about 200rds through mine and have decided I hate the stock. The dumb sticky cheek piece thing hurts my face every time I pull the trigger. Think I'm going to remove it completely and figure out something better.

I like bullpups.  High Tower Armory has released a bullpup stock.

So as for functionality, what are you all seeing in the 22tcm, other than the 9mm swap factor? Another slight concern is the 22tcm ammo availability, are other manufacturers considering this rd? I really like what I have seen from RIA, and am seriously considering this pistol, but... am looking for an overall objective view on this awesome offering
Thanks folks

Ken
Functionality:  The double stack serves as primary EDC for my gf's son over his Wiley Clapp Lightweight Commander. My single stack has served EDC for me on occasion but it is primarily an occasional range shooter.

Ammo:  It's available in 3 flavors - Armscor USA, Armscor Phillipean, and hand rolled. I avoid the Armscor Philipean. The Armscor USA has been readilly available in several LGS in the Houston Metro but I generally stock from Ammo Supply Warehouse. I'm prepped to handload with dies and components also sourced from Ammo Supply Warehouse. Since I also have the 223 parent cartridge by the bucket full ... I am not concerned about changing availability. The bullet is the most elusive component because it is short - they were cheap so I have a few.

Objectively:  If you view .223/556 as an effective manstopper ... You should consider the 22TCM as a comparably effective manstopper. I will admit to favoring heavier, larger diameter rounds. For me, momentum is easier to rely on than hydrostatic shock although I admit both are effective.  Finally, I don't anticipate having hearing protection in place if I need to put a pistol to work. 22TCM sounds like Brake'd 556.   If the ATF let me slip it into a stock I could control more effectively without a stamp ... I'd be a bigger proponent - it flies flatter and truer than I can point a pistol.

Congrats,

I see you are not a baby-stepper - nice choices.  You asked for suggestions ... I have only one.  Break them in wet.  If they ooze oil like you just recovered them from a vat of oil ... they may resemble what I'm suggesting.

To be fair - I've had plastic fantastic shooters convince friends shooting 1911s that sparing application is best.  This is when and where my friends experienced failures.

If you are going to clean your pistol after a range trip, why worry about a little extra oil?  To be fair, dunking it in oil is overkill and the 10s can be difficult to control with oil soaked scales. A couple drops on each rail, a drop on the recoil lug, a drop on the muzzle end of the barrel, and a drop on the disconnector is enough to get an ooze confirming that friction has been mitigated.

I just don't think a conventional 1911 is the right platform for it.  There just isn't enough recoil impulse to run a big steel slide like that......or maybe kick the caliber up to .257 or 6.5mm.

Tony

Both of my 5"ers run - you think it's ghosted recoil impulse?

Apologies, but your claiming a gun that hasn't had a failure since 2016 (tuned the magazine feed lips in '16) doesn't have enough recoil impulse.  My experience is in direct conflict with your supposition.

FWIW, the 1911 was the ideal platform 'cause the mag well is plenty happy with the OAL of the 22TCM.  You cannot feed a 22TCM through a magwell designed to accomodate 9mm or 40SW.  Plus it was an innovation - I owned the first I ever saw - it was like Kool Aid offering a new flavor.  Us 1911 guys don't get many shots at "new."

I've got/had a couple or a few.  I love'm.  In my experience RIA is the best deal going for a good quality 1911 backed by a lifetime warranty.

I had an early 5" doublestack which my GF's son adopted.  He loved it too much not to buy myself a now available single stack and give him the doublestack.  Somewhere along the way, RIA moved from a traditional barrel to a wilson/nowlin ramped variety.  I also have a 4.25" doublestack, but it is not in service because the frame was hijacked to drive Mechtechs.

I hate parkerization.  But I deal with it at this value.  I'd say go for it.  I'd advise against any of the conversions they sell for popular 9mm's because the 22tcm9r that fits into a 9mm magazine is not 22TCM.

My buddy has the Silverback. Says it's not only his favorite 10mm, but is his favorite handgun.

Your buddy is brilliant.  My Silverback is up for any challenge.  I've had a 45acp vbob in the past and the extra details on the Silverback are highly appreciated.  1. I love the sights inc'l adjustability and 2. the flushed slide stop is very nice.

Both the Valor and Silverback come checkered.  Just a personal opinion, but the checkering is a required thing on my 1911s stouter than 9mm.  I do run Hogue (Pearce actually) wraparounds on my doublestacks till I find someone I trust to fix (yes, checker) that front strap correctly.  I would not bring home a Razorback without committing to get it checkered right away.

Sorry for the late entry.....
Several manufacturers of 1911 barrels short chamber them and stamp them the bore diameter. You could possibly negotiate a match barrel to be short chambered with a 10mm stamping for you to final chamber to your exact match specifications.

This.  The OP can legally have 10mm replacement barrels and since .40 is 10mm - it should fly.  I'm not keen on sleeving a chamber for the reasons already posted.

I did miss the reason you aren't enjoying 10mm - but, I don't have much use for .40.

Finally - with one pistol on your license ... selling the 10, buying a 40, reaming spare barrel to 10mm is an overall cleaner solution if 40 is your primary caliber but you want the grown man's option.

General Discussion / Re: NICS - delay?
January 23 2018 05:55:06 PM MST
Welcome to my world.  In 2017 I did the NICS check process 5 times at 2 different shops.  Of the 5 transfers, I was delayed (long enough to leave the shop) 2 times.  1 of the 2 delays never advanced to proceed.  The transfer following the hanging (no proceed) transfer resulted in an instantaneous proceed and the transfer that followed that one returned a proceed in under 30 minutes.

I may hold some of the blame because I experimented last year.  After experiencing a few delays in 2016, I heard that witholding my SS# would likely help me avoid being delayed.  It didn't make any sense to me and it didn't have the desired result.

I seriously considered a UPIN (unique personal identificaiton number), but since my SS# is unique by statute - I'm very skeptical about paying for a second unique number that Feds can track me with.  My FFL tells me that UPINs did solve the problem for other customers that had problems with frequent delays.

Finally, according to my FFL, I am the only customer he sells to that has ever had an immediate proceed returned after getting even one delay notification without getting a UPIN.

This all adds up to a horribly broken system.  It bothers me that I can get a delay days after a proceed at the same FFL.  In this modern era of computer searches - When I decide to make a purchase on a Sunday, why the heck can't they see that my SS# was cleared for a proceed on Saturday?

At any rate - in T minus 18 months I will move my Carry License back to Texas where I reside.  I'm in year three of no TX LTC due to Wreckless Driving and I'm carrying under an AZ Non Resident LTC until then.  I definitely miss the no hassle transfers.

Having all the Glocks and several 1911s have come to the conclusion that the Glock large frame guns just are not for me.  Although I have a PARA-USA Hunter I'm seriously looking at selling off the Glocks, 20, 29 and 40, and getting one of these.

The deal breaker for me is the front strap checking...I just can't stand it. All my 1911s are either smooth or just have a few ribs like the old Gold Cups. Handled one to the Springfield's yesterday and I can live with their more fishscale like frontstrap.

I would like to try a Rock MS 4" 10mm but i would want it for carry and not sure how much work i would have to put into it to trust it

I have one of the RIA guns and you don't have to do anything to it.  It is just as accurate as the others and in 200+ rounds of factory and reloaded ammo have had ZERO malfunctions...truly a bargain...

As to Commander size guns, I just dropped off a 1956 .38 Super Colt Commander to be built into a 10mm...

Bob
Just popping up and wondering how you can control your 10mm follow-up shots without serious checkering. I can live without it on 9mm or 22TCM - but, it's mandatory to make a reasonable follow-up with the fiestier rounds I prefer. I think better than 90% of my control comes from front and backstrap checkering. I substituted skateboard tape to gain control of my Rock 10 while I had it.
